πŸ’œWARM UP SQUATSπŸ’œ

I love squats, such a functional exercise! And when I'm pregnant I love them even more, for my hips, pelvic floor and endurance in general.

With my first pregnancy I found squats to be so yummy in my body, and implementing the right breathing to stretch and contract my pelvic floor did just wonders for my labour.

In the last 20years, the benefits of exercising during pregnancy have been finally recognised.
In 2002 the American College Of Obstetrics & Gynecology (ACOG) stated "in the absence of either medical or obstetrics complications 30min or more of moderate exercise a day on most, if not all days of the week is recommended for pregnant women".
The benefits seem to favour also the fetus of exercising women, showing that they may tolerate labour better than fetuses of non-exercising women. It has also been found that clinical evidence of stress, as exhibited by meconium, Apgar scores and fetal heart rate pattern was less frequent in women who exercised at 50% of their pre conceptual level throughout pregnancy compared to well conditioned athletes who stopped exercising altogether.
Pregnant does not mean invalid or injured, women are strong and so they should be to go through labour! 😎

Throwback to roughly three years ago, when I still had muscles.

Wishing to be ale to get back as soon as possible to working on my extension, I miss that feeling.

With two pregnancies very close to each other (and a pandemic!) I never got back to a level where I could perfect my back extension but only to a point where it felt OK to do some extension work.

With a few weeks left until due date, I really am looking forward to rehab my body with all the care and patience I can give it, and hopefully get to a point I
can narrow those elbows further.. 🀞

With this second pregnancy my Pilates practice has gone a bit out the window... Might it be the end of a very long covid year starting to challenge my willingness? Maybe .
Could it be the hormones, the nausea, my one year old running around and literally touching everything he isn't allowed touch?
Maybe.

Could it be that my body just needs to rest for all of the above? Yes, maybe.
I don't know, but I just don't feel like Pilates right now.

Ever feel that way? Ever feel like your body craves something else? And what do you do when not doing pilates?
I literally cannot wait for gyms and studios to open and start yoga, or some weight training back up or even jump on a bloody reformer (as I haven't had access to one for over a year) !

I know it's OK not to be OK πŸ™„ but I do want to try something to make myself feel better. So any suggestions or recommendations please shoot!
