Achy knees. Stiff fingers in the morning. Hips that feel older than they should. Sound familiar? πŸ’›

If you are in perimenopause or menopause, your joints might be trying to tell you something.

Here is why this happens:
πŸ”΄ Oestrogen has powerful anti-inflammatory effects. When levels decline, inflammation in the joints can increase β€” causing pain, swelling, and stiffness
πŸ”΄ Oestrogen also supports cartilage health and keeps joints lubricated. Without it, that natural cushioning starts to break down
πŸ”΄ The result is discomfort that many women assume is just ageing β€” when it is actually hormonal

This is not something you simply have to accept. πŸ’›

A few things that can genuinely help:
🌿 Gentle, regular movement β€” swimming, walking, yoga
🌿 Anti-inflammatory foods such as oily fish, leafy greens, and berries
🌿 Stretching and mobility work to maintain flexibility
🌿 A conversation with a specialist about whether hormonal support could help

Your body is changing β€” but you can stay strong, mobile, and comfortable. πŸ’›

If menopause has stolen your sleep, I want you to know - this is one of the most common things women tell me in clinic, and it is not something you simply have to accept. πŸ’›

Poor sleep during menopause is not just frustrating. It affects your mood, your memory, your energy, your relationships, and your long-term health. And yet so many women are told to simply practise better sleep hygiene, without anyone ever addressing the hormonal root cause.

Here is what is actually happening:
πŸ”΄ Progesterone has a natural calming, sleep-promoting effect β€” and its decline during menopause directly impacts your ability to fall and stay asleep
πŸ”΄ Oestrogen fluctuations trigger vasomotor symptoms like night sweats and hot flushes, which fragment your sleep cycle and prevent you reaching the deep, restorative stages of rest
πŸ”΄ Hormonal shifts also affect serotonin and melatonin, the brain chemicals that regulate your sleep-wake cycle

The good news is that sleep disturbance in menopause is treatable β€” not just manageable.

Alongside practical sleep hygiene measures such as cooling your bedroom, limiting caffeine, and creating a consistent wind-down routine, there are medical options available that address the hormonal cause directly.

If your sleep has not been the same since perimenopause began, that is worth a conversation with a specialist. πŸ’›

Bleeding between your periods is not something to wait and see about. πŸ’›

It is one of the most common concerns I hear from women and one of the most commonly dismissed. So let us talk about what is actually behind it.

The three most frequent causes I see in clinic are:
πŸ”΄ Hormonal imbalance: oestrogen and progesterone fluctuations, particularly during perimenopause or around changes to contraception, can cause your cycle to become unpredictable and trigger bleeding between periods
πŸ”΄ Polyps or fibroids: these are benign growths inside or on the uterus that often cause no other symptoms at all β€” many women only discover them when they finally have an ultrasound
πŸ”΄ Cervical or endometrial changes: this is the one that matters most to catch early. Changes to the cervix or uterine lining can range from a simple, easily managed issue to something that genuinely needs prompt investigation

The right assessment β€” including a proper clinical history, pelvic examination, and ultrasound scan β€” can identify the cause and put a plan in place.

You do not have to live with uncertainty. You just need the right support. πŸ’›

Cycle tracking - useful tool or daily source of stress?

When you're trying to conceive, tracking your cycle can genuinely help. It pinpoints your fertile window, shows whether you're ovulating consistently, and gives your specialist so much more to work with at your very first appointment.

But it can also quietly become something you check before you've even got out of bed.

The goal is information - not obsession. Tracking works best when it's proportionate, purposeful and in service of you - not the other way around. πŸ’™

Save this one if you're TTC and want a more balanced approach to understanding your cycle. πŸ”–

Happy World Health Day. πŸ’›

Today is a global reminder that health is a fundamental human right β€” not something we should have to fight for, justify, or beg to be taken seriously about.

In women's healthcare, that message resonates deeply.

So many of the women I see in clinic have spent years, sometimes decades, navigating symptoms that were dismissed, minimised, or missed entirely. Heavy periods written off as normal.

Pelvic pain attributed to stress. Perimenopausal symptoms confused with anxiety. Hormonal changes that went uninvestigated for far too long.

World Health Day is a moment to say clearly: that is not good enough. And it does not have to be your story.

Whether you are dealing with something you have never quite been able to explain, or you have simply been putting your own health last while taking care of everyone else β€” today is the day to change that.

Your health matters. Your symptoms deserve attention. And specialist support is available. πŸ’›

Can we talk about what menopause actually does to your body? Because it is so much more than hot flushes and missed periods. πŸ’›

One of the things I feel most passionate about in my practice is helping women understand the full picture of what is happening during and after menopause β€” because the long-term health implications are significant, and they are largely preventable with the right support.

Here is what declining oestrogen actually affects:

πŸ«€ Your heart: before menopause, oestrogen offers a degree of natural protection against cardiovascular disease. Once that protection declines, the risk of heart disease rises substantially. This is why postmenopausal women have a significantly higher cardiovascular risk than their premenopausal counterparts.

🦴 Your bones: oestrogen plays a critical role in maintaining bone density. In the years immediately following menopause, bone loss accelerates rapidly β€” increasing the risk of osteoporosis and fractures, particularly of the hip and spine.

🧠 Your brain: many women notice changes in memory, concentration, and mental sharpness during menopause. These are not imagined and they are not simply "getting older." They are linked to the role oestrogen plays in brain chemistry and neurological function.

✨ Your skin and connective tissue: collagen production drops significantly after menopause, affecting the appearance and resilience of skin, as well as joint comfort and pelvic floor strength.

The good news?

Menopause is also one of the most important moments to take stock of your health, have the right conversations, and put a plan in place for the years ahead.

This is where specialist menopause care makes a real difference β€” not just managing today's symptoms, but protecting your future health. πŸ’›

April is Stress Awareness Month πŸ’› β€” and if your body has been feeling off lately, stress might be playing a bigger role than you think.

Most of us know stress affects our sleep, our mood, our energy. But did you know it can also directly affect your cycle, your hormones, and your gynaecological health?

Here is what chronic stress can do:
πŸ”΄ Make your periods irregular or cause them to disappear altogether
πŸ”΄ Worsen PMS and PMDD symptoms significantly
πŸ”΄ Increase pain associated with endometriosis
πŸ”΄ Disrupt ovulation and affect fertility
πŸ”΄ Amplify perimenopausal symptoms like hot flushes, brain fog and mood swings
πŸ”΄ Reduce libido and affect pelvic health

Your body keeps the score β€” and your cycle is one of the first places it shows up. πŸ’›

If your hormonal health has felt harder to manage during a particularly stressful season of life, you are not imagining it. And you do not have to figure it out alone.

If you have been told your periods are "just heavy" or your pain is "just part of being a woman" β€” please read every slide in this carousel.

Endometriosis is real. It is common. And it is so much more than difficult periods.

It can affect your bleeding, your pain levels, your fertility, your relationships, and your daily life. And yet so many women spend years pushing through before anyone takes them seriously.

That ends here. πŸ’œ

You deserve to understand what might be happening in your body. You deserve a specialist who listens. And you deserve answers β€” not just reassurance.

Exciting news β€” I have been featured in ZIMA Magazine πŸ’›βœ¨

In this piece, I explore one of the questions I hear most often in clinic: when do menstrual symptoms cross the line from something we just live with, into something that actually needs attention?

PMS, difficult cycles, symptoms that feel bigger than they should β€” so many women normalise these experiences because they have been told it is just part of life. But that is not always the whole story.

I hope this article reaches the women who need to read it. The ones who have been pushing through for years. The ones who have been told they are fine when they know something is not quite right.

You deserve answers. Not just reassurance. πŸ’›

Are your emotions feeling harder to manage lately? You are not imagining it, and you are not alone. πŸ’›

One of the things I hear most often from women in perimenopause and menopause is this: "I don't feel like myself anymore. I cry at things I wouldn't normally cry at. I snap at people I love. I feel anxious for no reason."

And every time, I want them to know the same thing: there is a biological explanation for this.

Oestrogen has a direct influence on serotonin and dopamine, the brain chemicals responsible for mood, emotional balance, and resilience. When oestrogen begins to fluctuate and decline, the effects on how we feel emotionally can be just as significant as any physical symptom.

Mood swings in menopause are real. They are valid. And they deserve proper attention, not just a pat on the back.
Here is what can genuinely help:

🌿 Talking with a therapist or counsellor
🌿 Opening up to trusted friends or family
🌿 Mindfulness, rest, and reducing emotional load where possible
🌿 A specialist menopause consultation to explore whether hormonal support is right for you

You do not have to white-knuckle your way through this stage of life. Support exists, and asking for it is one of the bravest things you can do. πŸ’›
