Today I visited Tenterden, a lovely town filled with antique emporiums and tea shops. It is also home to Tom Baker, who played Doctor Who in the 1970s, so I decided to have a little adventure in the Tardis! I stepped into the Time Machine which took me back to the 1960s and 70s!

It was wonderful to see some of the vintage toys and memorabilia I remember from my childhood. Do you recognise any of these items from your own childhood?

A lovely surprise today when I visited one of my customers! 🦆
Mr B lives near a large pond & the ducks have taken a liking to the raised flower beds in his garden.

This year she chose a flower bed at the end of the garden instead of the one by the patio which was last years nest.

Her nest looked very cosy as she sat protecting her eggs.
I wonder how many ducklings will appear this year? We think she has a couple of weeks before she’s a proud mother! 🐣

Let me introduce you to Sarah, one of our wonderful local Helpers. 👋

“I am a fun-loving, sociable and positive person with a real can-do attitude who loves chatting the day away. I have been married for nearly 35 years and have 3 grown-up daughters who all live locally.”

“I have worked with horses since leaving school in 1982 and love all animals. After spending several years caring for my mother, I am passionate about helping older people live happy, fulfilling lives in their own homes. Since becoming a Helper, I have really enjoyed making a difference to my customers. One of my customers calls me her Fairy Angel. This brings me so much joy as it’s her way of telling me what a difference I have made to her life.”

“In my spare time, I enjoy the cinema, theatre, music and spending time with my dogs, Clara and Ozzy.”

Earlier this month, I attended the ‘Big Dementia Conversation’ event at Invicta Court in Maidstone, titled "Staying Connected: A Guide to Dementia-Friendly Conversations."

The session was led by Amy, a dementia care coach from Care UK. It was highly informative, covering the various types of cognitive impairment and how communication barriers can impact interactions with family and carers.

We explored practical ways to communicate more effectively, build understanding and reduce frustration.

One particularly useful tip was the use of visual cues; for example, using photos of familiar places or items related to hobbies can serve as excellent conversation starters for someone living with dementia.

I found these insights very valuable for creating more meaningful everyday moments and staying connected. 💙
