Archive- January 2026: Physiotherapy at Old Edwardian’s Fc.

The early intervention and continuation of care in sports injuries is very important for professional footballers. Therefore, a prompt and accurate diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation program will reduce long term chronic injuries, accelerate the healing process, aid recovery and improve pain management. This may also involve the use of X-rays, ultrasound or MRI scans depending upon the severity/complexity of the injury.

Therefore, I am very grateful for the opportunity to work alongside Mr Ahmed Nurse Practitioner & Mr Cole Massage therapist the medical staff of Old Edwardian’s Football Club during early part of 2025/2026 Sierra Leone premier league season.

1. Donation of Physiotherapy First Aid supplies- Disposable medical gloves, anti- inflammatory gels, pain relief sprays, orthopaedic supports/brace for wrist, ankle, knee, thigh, groin and lower back. Football boots to be trialed for the suitability for playing on hard surfaces & artificial football pitch - injury prevention.

2. Continuation of care: assessments, treatments, diagnosing and designing functional rehabilitation exercises during training sessions and match day.

3. Half time locker room sports injury treatments during match day.

4. Post match celebration with players and medical staff. Full time score Old Edwardian’s Fc 3 Vs Freetown City Council Fc 0

I would like to thank the Team Manager- Mr Manfred Peters and his management team.
&
The medical staff, coaches and players of Old Edwardian’s Football club.

And best wishes for the rest of 2025/2026 football season!⚽️

January 2026:

Sierra Leone Squash Association- Physiotherapy Seminar.

The dynamics and competitiveness of squash place a high demand on both the mental and musculoskeletal systems of squash players, thus increasing the risk of injury.

We looked at overuse injuries, traumatic injuries, growth factor injuries - specific to younger players and the effects of hormonal fluctuations in female players.

Personalised sports specific exercise program for squash players.
Recovery strategies: Rest, sleep, active recovery, management of stress during training and competition.

Practical demonstration of the importance of physiotherapy assessment, diagnosis and treatments /rehabilitation of players injuries to enhance performance and wellbeing.

Concluded with a successful question and answer session.

Donations:
Anti-inflammatory Gels. Pain relief sprays.
Orthopaedic aids: back supports, knee and ankle braces.
Squash training t-shirts.

Congratulations Craig & Chris!
What an awesome achievement of completing 87.7km Comrade Ultramarathon in South Africa 🇿🇦 ! Welcome back to UK🇬🇧 !
determination, consistency, hard work, patience to reach the finish line.

“Hi Des as discussed I have sent you the results.. 11th June 2023, I completed 87.7km Comrades Ultramarathon in South Africa.
I managed to finish in 10hrs : 17min.
I started off slow and paced myself well.
My legs felt good - after not been able to walk 12 weeks prior to the marathon.
I am pleased with my time and I could not have done it without your help and support.

Chris finished in 11hrs : 28min and equally very pleased with his time and after having sessions with you a week before race day.

And I will definitely be racing again next year.”
