olive oil spray available to buy for £5

Why use olive oil in your ears?
- to prepare for an ear wax removal procedure (microsuction or irrigation) not strictly necessary for microsuction but it can make the procedure more comfortable and successful
- to clear blockages (consistent twice a day oiling for two weeks should clear any blockages without any further intervention) if you have done this for 2 weeks then it is likely you need additional assistance from an ear care practitioner
- for maintenance (once you have had your ears cleared by irrigation or microsuction it can be beneficial to use olive oil drops regularly to help keep the ears clear or extend time between ear cleaning appointments)

Other ear drop preparations are available such as Otex (urea hydrogen peroxide) or Sodium bicarbonate drops. These can be beneficial on their own or to soften wax prior to irrigation but they can make the wax very sticky and more difficult to microsuction if it is required. They can also cause irritation in some people with sensitive ears.

There is no upper or lower age limit for ear wax removal however for the purposes of my CQC registration I am registered to see patients from 4 years old. A key factor to consider when treating children is that they understand and are able to stay still for the procedure to be performed safely, and this really depends on the individual child. 4 year old P was an absolute star and we managed to clear both his ears of his little wax nuggets. I can see children or in the comfort of their own home. Please contact me for more details or to book in!

One of those rogue cotton bud tips that ‘no one ever uses’ 😂 This client had been to another microsuction practitioner 4 times with a blocked ear and they had been unable to relieve her. It very quickly became clear that the blockage wasn’t just a build up of wax. Sometimes microsuction isn’t going to cut it which is why I am also trained to use micro ENT instruments such as forceps. We managed to grab hold of that bud and pull it out, much to her relief. She even took the offending item to show her neighbours!
