Fiona Butterworth, one of our audiologists, recently delivered a hearing health session to 115 students at Guildhall School of Music & Drama.
Using interactive polls, Fiona assessed students’ confidence in managing their hearing. At the start, the average rating was 3.4 out of 5. By the end of the session, this had risen to 4.2 out of 5, with 91% of students rating themselves 4–5 out of 5.
Not only did the students leave feeling more confident, but they also gained practical takeaways, including the importance of routine hearing tests, consistent use of existing hearing protection, and upgrading to custom-made hearing protection.
The session received overwhelmingly positive feedback:

• "An informative session that is essential for musicians, and isn’t covered enough."
• "Very interesting, clear and informative, kind, helpful - really wonderfully presented."
Sessions like this are vital for raising awareness and educating musicians, helping them feel more confident about protecting their hearing and ensuring they can enjoy their music safely for years to come.
