What is Paget's Disease? Paget’s disease of the bone is a rare chronic bone disorder in which there is excessive and disorderly bone turnover, with both excessive resorption and formation. This is the process by which your body breaks down old bone and creates new bone. A person with Paget’s disease of the bone is more likely to experience bone fractures (breaks). When the disease is around a joint, it can cause arthritis. It is most common after the age of 50, affecting about 1-3% of older adults in some populations.

On the 11th January it is Paget's Awareness Day which is observed every year to raise awareness and educate people about this rare but treatable condition that affects bone health. It also emphasizes the importance of early diagnosis and effective management.

Icy pavements and roads at this time of year can be pretty dangerous. Make sure that you are wearing good footwear with deep treads. Avoid smooth soled shoes like leather and plastic, as these will not grip on the ice. Also pay attention whilst walking and try to find paths that have more sun on them, so that the ice may have melted away. Take care everyone!

What are your plans this January? January is the most popular month for signing up to a gym membership. Following on from a busy month of December with some level of indulgence, (whatever that may be), January always seems like a good time to start afresh. Exercise is a very good way to kick off the New Year, and this can be done in so many ways. If you need to speak to one of our experienced physiotherapists about any injuries you may have or any programmes you would like to be provided with to get to a better, fitter and stronger you, give us a ring.

Happy Boxing Day everyone? Do you know why we have Boxing Day and where it originated from?

Why is it called Boxing Day and what are its origins?
There are two major theories for where the holiday began. Some believe that Boxing Day began with churches collecting alms boxes of parishioners' donated money, according to Britannica. The church would give these boxes of donations to the poor the day after Christmas. The name has stuck, but now, people typically donate to charity in the weeks leading up to the holidays.

Others believe that the day was observed because servants had to work at Christmas dinners and festivities, so they celebrated the holiday on Dec. 26. According to History.com, the lords and aristocrats would give their servants "Christmas boxes" filled with leftovers and small gifts after the parties, leading to the name "Boxing Day."

Employers still give service workers bonuses around the holidays, just as leftovers still are a part of celebrations today.

Whatever you are doing today, have fun relaxing after what may have been a busy Xmas Day!

Who Are We?

We are an excellent physiotherapy, sports and remedial massage service.

Physio Fitness was established in 2007 in Hampstead. In 2009 a new venue was taken on in Finchley and these two sites are now both offering an excellent physiotherapy service.

It is staffed by a team of professionally qualified physiotherapists that specialise in a range of conditions. We also have an experienced sports massage therapist who works closely with our team of physiotherapists.
