What is Paget's Disease? Paget’s disease of the bone is a rare chronic bone disorder in which there is excessive and disorderly bone turnover, with both excessive resorption and formation. This is the process by which your body breaks down old bone and creates new bone. A person with Paget’s disease of the bone is more likely to experience bone fractures (breaks). When the disease is around a joint, it can cause arthritis. It is most common after the age of 50, affecting about 1-3% of older adults in some populations.
On the 11th January it is Paget's Awareness Day which is observed every year to raise awareness and educate people about this rare but treatable condition that affects bone health. It also emphasizes the importance of early diagnosis and effective management.
