🎶 European Music Therapy Day 2025 🎶
“This year’s theme is “Breathe in Music.”
🌿🌿🌿
“It reminds us to pause for a moment every now and then and allow ourselves a short break through the wisdom of music. It invites us to be present in the here and now, and to reconnect with ourselves and with others, one more reason why we use music therapeutically.” (BAMT)
Music connects to us all in different ways.
Music can be therapeutic, whether that be through creating our own music, performing, playing or singing together as part of a group, or listening to a song that holds a special meaning. Music can feel uplifting, can make us want to move, sing, & dance! It can also be incredibly powerful in other ways and connect to an emotion or memory.
As a Music Therapist that works in a paediatric hospital setting…
🌸 music can be used with families through moments of uncertainty and hope.
💜 the use of voice & singing/humming/vocalising can support bonding and state regulation in the NICU. Using music (facilitated by a music therapist) can support neonates with improving respiratory rates and oxygen saturation.
🎵using music in music therapy can be a tool for self-expression, play, and emotional support for older children. Music can be a container.
Today, “breathing in music” could look like:
🌿 putting on a favourite song or playlist
🌿 singing with others
🌿 creating some imagery/art to music with a focus on a positive moment from your week
🌿 spending time outside and noticing the sounds around you
🌿 moving to music
