🌏 Celebrating Culture in Care – South Asian Heritage Month

At HP Homecare, we’re proud to work with a wonderfully diverse team — many of whom bring rich traditions, warmth, and values from South Asian cultures into the care they provide.

From preparing familiar meals to understanding religious observances and language nuances, cultural sensitivity isn’t just a bonus — it’s part of great care. 💛

This South Asian Heritage Month, we celebrate the carers who bring both professional skill and cultural heart to our clients' homes.

A testimonial that speaks from the heart.

💬 "The standard of care provided by Health Professionals was excellent and allowed both my parents to stay at home in their familiar surroundings until the end of their lives, with my mother actually passing away at home."

🕊️ Health Professionals provided home-based care for both my parents over a period of 12 years (autumn 2013 to spring 2025), when my mother passed away.

👩‍⚕️ Michele established and maintained a core team of dedicated and very professional carers covering both night and day — providing the continuity of care and routine that is so important to the quality of life of older people.

🏡 From October 2020, I lived next door to my mother, so I was able to witness first hand the care she was receiving on a daily basis. I was very impressed by the kindness, dedication, and professionalism of the care team.

📋 Latterly, Michele herself played an important role liaising with GPs and district nurses on a professional level to ensure my mother received the medical help she needed.

📞 My whole experience with Health Professionals was excellent, and Michele was very good at providing me care updates on my parents — in addition to the Health Professionals office team providing monthly rotas, so my mother knew exactly who would be coming to provide care and when.

🌞 Heatwaves & dementia: what carers should know

Hot weather can cause real distress, especially for those living with dementia.

Some signs of heat-related discomfort may be missed or misunderstood. Here’s what to watch for:
• Increased restlessness or agitation
• Refusing food or drink
• Unusual drowsiness or confusion

Simple actions can make a big difference:
✅ Offer drinks often — don’t wait to be asked
✅ Keep the environment cool, quiet, and shaded
✅ Use light clothing and fans for comfort

Most importantly, look out for the quiet signs.
Distress doesn’t always shout — it can show up as withdrawal or sudden mood changes.

At HP Homecare, our carers are trained to spot these signs early and act with care.
