“Since Mum came home from hospital, she seems less confident — is this normal?”

It’s a question many families quietly ask themselves.

Even when treatment has been successful, the experience of being in hospital can affect an older person’s confidence, mobility, and sense of independence.

In our latest article, we explain why this happens and what families can do to support recovery at home.

A great day of learning and reflection as members of the Ashbourne Healthcare Services team attended the Social Care Research Conference at St Thomas’ Hospital, hosted by the NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research), celebrating 20 years of research shaping the social care sector.

Events like this are an important reminder that meaningful progress in social care happens when research, policy and frontline experience come together. Hearing from sector leaders, researchers and practitioners highlighted just how vital collaboration is in addressing the challenges facing health and social care today.

For providers like us delivering domiciliary care in the community, the conversations strongly resonated. Every day we support people to remain independent at home, work closely with health partners during hospital discharge, and help families navigate complex care needs.

As demand for care continues to grow, strengthening the connection between research and frontline practice will be key to building sustainable, person-centred services.

We’re proud that our colleagues could represent Ashbourne Healthcare Services at this important conference and bring back insights that help us continue improving the care and support we provide.

Care doesn’t stop at the weekend.

Familiar faces, reliable support, and knowing someone will be there each day helps people feel safe, comfortable, and truly at home.

That’s why our care continues every day — offering reassurance, routine, and a friendly presence when it matters most.

Because good care is about trust, kindness, and being there!

Take care in cold weather! With very cold temperatures, a few small steps can help you stay well:

• Dress in warm layers and cover hands, feet and head
• Keep indoor spaces safely heated
• Enjoy warm food and drinks
• Check in on elderly or vulnerable family members

If you’re concerned about your health during the cold weather, seeking medical advice can help.

Take care and stay warm!

Our Christmas party was everything we needed and more —
good food, great music, and far too many moments that reminded us why we should never let certain people near a dance floor again. 😂

So many laughs, lots of festive chaos, and a genuinely lovely evening with an amazing team.

We’ll share more photos soon!
