"Why is everyone suddenly neurodivergent?"
We're not suddenly neurodivergent.

We've always been here.

What Actually Happened:
For years, if you didn't match the stereotype - especially if you were a girl, not white, or learned to hide it well - you got missed.

You were told:
"Too sensitive." "Dramatic." "Not trying hard enough." "Lazy."

You spent years thinking you were broken when actually, your brain just works differently.

That Exhaustion From Pretending to Be "Normal"?
That's masking. And it's draining.

Late Diagnosis Isn't "Too Late"
It's finally getting answers. Finally understanding why things always felt harder.

Comprehensive assessments at London Trusted Therapy:
βœ“ QbCheck for ADHD
βœ“ ADOS-2 for Autism
βœ“ Post-diagnostic support

Not just a questionnaire. Proper testing. Real answers.

What Happens During an ADHD Assessment? | Inside the Clinical Process

Ever wondered what actually happens during an ADHD assessment?
It's not just a quick questionnaire. Here's what a comprehensive clinical evaluation involves:

The Assessment Includes:
πŸ“‹ Developmental History
Looking for patterns from childhoodβ€”because ADHD symptoms must be present before age 12.
🧩 Life Dysfunction Analysis
Understanding which areas of life are affected and how current issues connect to lifelong patterns.
πŸ’Š Medication and Psychiatric History
Reviewing what's been tried and what hasn't worked.
⚠️ Risk Assessment
Including risk-taking behaviours, not just past incidents.
🧠 Current Mental State Evaluation
Understanding how you're functioning right now.
πŸ“š Collateral Information
Sometimes from parents, siblings, or school reports - looking for traceable patterns from childhood.

What Clinicians Are Looking For:
πŸ” A pattern of impairment in specific areas traceable back to childhood.
Not everyone remembers their childhood clearly - that's why collateral evidence (school reports, family input) can be so helpful.
This Isn't a Quick Process
A proper ADHD assessment is thorough, evidence-based, and considers your whole life story.
✨ You deserve answersβ€”not guesswork.

What do you really love?
Not what you're supposed to love. Not what's "productive" or "appropriate" or "normal for your age."

What calls to you? What makes you lose track of time? What lights you up from the inside?

For many neurodivergent people, this question is bittersweet. Because we know what we love – we've always known. It's often called our "special interests" or "hyperfixations," usually with a patronising undertone suggesting we need to move on to more "balanced" pursuits.

But Rumi understood something profound: that pull towards what genuinely moves you? That's not distraction. That's not immaturity. That's your authentic self showing you the way.

Your passion for taxonomy, train schedules, historical linguistics, fibre arts, obscure music, marine biology, mechanical systems – whatever it is that makes your brain light up – that's not something to outgrow. It's something to honour.

At London Trusted Therapy, we don't pathologise your interests. We celebrate them. Because that "strange pull" Rumi describes? That's often where your greatest joy and deepest authenticity live.

Trust it. Follow it. It won't lead you astray. ✨

Social Media Companies in Court Today for Harming Teen Mental Health
TikTok, Instagram, YouTube - all facing allegations they designed apps to be addictive.

We all feel it. But we're not going to tell you to delete everything. Let's be real.

When It's More Than Just Scrolling:
You're checking constantly, even when you don't want to.

Deleted and reinstalled five times this week because you "just need to check one thing."

You feel worse after scrolling.
More anxious. More like everyone's life is better. More "I'm not good enough."

It's 3am and you can't stop.
You know you should sleep, but you're still scrolling.

Here's the Truth
Therapy isn't about quitting social media. It's about having a healthier relationship with it - and with yourself.

Our therapists at London Trusted Therapy actually get what it's like to live in the digital age. No judgment. Just real support for navigating anxiety, comparison, and finding balance.

Because your mental health matters more than your screen time.

London is one of the most connected cities in the world. It's also one of the loneliest.

If you feel isolated despite being surrounded by millions of people, you're not imagining it. Urban loneliness is a documented epidemic, and young adults are hit hardest.

Here's what no one tells you about London loneliness:
It's not about lacking social skills. It's about living in a city designed for productivity, not community. Where rent is so high you can barely afford to live, let alone socialise. Where everyone's moving through at pace, making long-term connection nearly impossible. Where work culture glorifies busyness and punishes rest.

You're not failing at making friends. The system is failing to create conditions for genuine connection.

But here's what you CAN control:
β†’ Seeking quality over quantity in relationships
β†’ Being vulnerable even when it's terrifying
β†’ Showing up consistently for people who matter
β†’ Joining communities around actual interests (not forced networking events)
β†’ Acknowledging that loneliness is real and deserves support
β†’ Getting professional help if isolation becomes chronic

For neurodivergent Londoners, this is even more complex. Finding people who understand your communication style, your sensory needs, your social energy limits - it's hard enough without the added challenge of a lonely city. Your struggle isn't because you're ""bad at people."" It's because the world isn't designed for different kinds of brains.
Loneliness isn't a character flaw. It's a signal.

If you've been lonely for a while, if you're struggling to build genuine connections, if you feel invisible in a crowd - therapy can help. Not toxic positivity or surface-level advice. Real support for navigating this genuinely difficult aspect of urban life.

We offer individual therapy and group therapy. Both can help with loneliness - in different ways.

This one hits hard.
Kierkegaard understood existential despair – that quiet, persistent ache that comes from living a life that doesn't fit. Not dramatic. Not obvious. Just... wrong.

I see this despair in my therapy room regularly. Successful people who feel empty. Accomplished professionals who feel fraudulent. People who've "made it" by every external measure, but feel hollow inside.

And so often, when we dig deeper, we find the same pattern: they've spent their entire lives being someone they're not.

For neurodivergent people, this takes a specific shape. The despair of forcing eye contact when it feels like sandpaper on your brain. The despair of pretending you're following a conversation when sensory input is overwhelming. The despair of hiding your passionate interests because they're "too much." The despair of watching everyone else navigate social situations with ease whilst you're constantly calculating every response.

That despair? It's not you being "too sensitive" or "difficult." It's your authentic self, suffocating.
There's another way. One where being who you are isn't despair – it's liberation.

We're here when you're ready. πŸ’š

It's exhausting when the people who are supposed to support you just... Don't get it like no karen a 10 minute walk isn't going to fix my brain chemistry.
Here's the thing - your mental health struggles are valid even if your family doesn't understand them. Their inability to comprehend your experience doesn't make it less real.
You're not:
❌ being dramatic
❌ attention seeking
❌ "too sensitive"
❌ making it up

You ARE:
βœ… deserving of proper support
βœ… allowed to feel what you feel
βœ… valid in seeking help
βœ… enough exactly as you are

If you're struggling and your family isn't your safe space, please reach out to someone who can actually help. therapy exists for exactly this reason.
You deserve to be heard. Not fixed. Not dismissed. Heard.

"ADHD was thought to be something children grew out of. That's completely changed."
Dr. Alex Cappai explains how our understanding of adult ADHD evolved - and why so many are only now getting diagnosed.

What Changed:
πŸ“Š 60-70% of children with ADHD have symptoms into adulthood

🧠 It's not attention "deficit" - it's difficulty regulating attention

🧬 ADHD is highly genetic and runs in families

⚠️ 75% have co-occurring conditions like anxiety or depression

πŸŽ“ Psychiatrists didn't receive ADHD training until recently

Why This Matters:
Most adults have histories of "treatment-resistant" anxiety or depression because those got diagnosed while ADHD remained invisible.
If treatments never quite worked, if you've always felt different - this might be why.
Adult ADHD isn't new. Our understanding of it is.

Fragment from our full interview with Dr. Alex Cappai, ADHD specialist.

Wilde said it with characteristic wit, but there's profound truth here.
How many versions of yourself have you tried on? The "professional" you with perfect posture and forced smiles. The "social" you who pretends to enjoy loud restaurants. The "together" you who hides the chaos of your ADHD brain. The "normal" you who suppresses every stim.
Exhausting, isn't it?

Here's the thing: you can't actually be anyone else. You can perform them, yes. You can study their mannerisms and mimic their responses. Many of us become incredibly skilled at it.
But underneath every performance, you're still you. Your neurodivergent brain. Your unique way of experiencing the world. Your authentic self, waiting.
And that authentic self? That's who we want to meet.
Not the polished version. Not the "appropriate" version. Not the version who's trying so hard to seem like everyone else.
Just you. Gloriously, messily, authentically you.
Because everyone else really is already taken. And the world needs what only you can offer. πŸ’™
