Revisited: Where are we now in therapy, training and culture.
Saturday 14th of March 2026
10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
When Intersections of Privilege and Otherness was published in February 2021, it arrived at a moment of profound social and professional reckoning. Emerging in the wake of the murder of George Floyd and alongside the global resonance of the movement, the book challenged long held assumptions about neutrality, power, and difference within counselling and psychotherapy.

Five years on, this anniversary lecture and reflective workshop invites a careful and honest stock take.

How far have our professions really shifted?

What has changed in therapeutic practice, training, and institutional culture, and what has remained resistant to change?

Where do power, privilege, and otherness now sit in the everyday realities of professional life?

Universities Psychotherapy & Counselling Association Students’ Research Summit

The UPCA Student Research Summit – Emerging Minds in a Changing World – is a one-day celebration of creativity, inquiry, and connection within the counselling and psychotherapy research community. This annual event brings together trainee and newly accredited practitioners to showcase the innovation and dedication that are shaping the next generation of research in our field.

Designed to foster learning, dialogue, and collaboration, the summit invites student-led research presentations and workshops. Participants will have the opportunity to share their ideas, explore diverse methodologies, and engage with both peers and established researchers in an inclusive, stimulating environment.

Well.
What can I say?!
That was an extraordinary year, wasn't it?!
With the books, the chapters, the conference keynotes, the travelling, and the downtime on retreats and just indoors doing sod all, its been an brilliant and fascinating year, and none of it would mean anything without those of you who follow me in these social media spaces.
So whilst I know I've had a blessed year, I want to wish all of you all the best for 2026. Please look after yourselves and each other, and I look forward to seeing as many of you as I can in 2026.
