Alexander Technique in Central London

Alexander Technique in Central London I give individual Alexander lessons in Bloomsbury and EC1. I offer groups, workshops, consultations. Welcome!

I will be using this page to share information about my teaching practice and information about events and workshops. You are welcome to contact me to book lessons, chat about the benefits of Alexander lessons for you, or to book me for workshops or presentations. I feel passionate about what I think the Alexander Technique can offer in terms of solving some of the most common problems of modern living in terms of personal suffering and cost to society, from behavioural and educational problems to back pain. A large study published in the British Medical Journal in 2008 ( www.bmj.com/content/337/bmj.a884 ) showed that Alexander Technique lessons gave long-term help for back pain. The Alexander Technique is effective to help solve and prevent work-related musculoskeletal problems, low back pain, deal with stress and tension, improve posture and performance in everyday life as well as in acting, singing, playing musical instruments, sports and fitness, at work and in social life. I see it as a great tool for self-development and many people come for lessons to learn to be more mindful, have a greater conscious awareness of how they react, behave and make choices in their lives. Whatever brings a person to the Technique they find that it has far-reaching effects. You learn to do whatever you do better - with less pain, stress and tension and more ease, poise and freedom. I have taught people of all ages from all walks of life in individual lessons and in workshops and group classes. At the City Lit, I teach Alexander Technique for Actors and Performing Artists and general introductory workshops. Many of my private students are actors, musicians and singers and I have worked with choirs in Sweden and Singapore. I give workstation assessments and workshops in offices based on my Alexander Technique experience. I tailor the work to suit the needs of the company and their staff. Business where I have worked include staff at City Lit, The Guardian, British Film Institute, Tommy Boy Music, CCD Health PR and BPP Hyperion Training. I am a member of STAT (The Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique), where I have served on the PR Committee and Council, including being Chair for 2 years. I am co-author of The Alexander Technique for Pregnancy and Childbirth (Gollancz 1995). Testimonials:
'The Alexander Technique makes a real difference to my often tense and busy life. Its thoughtful approach had made me calmer, improved my concentration and given me a clearer sense of my own well being. I am grateful for it.' Joan Bakewell

'The Alexander Technique changed my life. It enabled me to devote more time to creating beauty. This inner strength is essential for all.' Andrew Logan

This is for everyone who wants to move with more ease and freedom.

Join me for some Body Mapping explorations. We all have a body and we all move. We will explore our anatomy from the ‘inside out’ - instead of the common study to anatomy which approaches it from the ‘outside in’ - to help us understand anatomical significance for movement within ourselves. If you can change how you think your body moves, you can change how you move. If you can change how you move, you can change what you feel.
We won't be doing acrobatics but why not be inspired by the co-ordination, freedom in the joints and postural support these three women from the group Mimbre embody! I took the photo at one of their shows the year before Covid. It makes me happy!
The course is both in person and online. 7 June - 5 July.
