Hojicha Latte .world 🍵
Tokkia has quickly made a name for itself as one of London’s new matcha hotspots. While the matcha scene here feels quite saturated, their teas from South Korea bring a refreshing twist.
As someone sensitive to caffeine, hojicha is my go-to for a calming afternoon tea. The tea leaves are roasted much longer than other varieties, creating that warm, nutty aroma I adore—with far less caffeine than matcha.
The copper kettle the barista used instantly brought me back to my first trip to Seoul, where such kettles are part of everyday tea culture. ☕️ The staff mentioned Korean teas tend to taste less bitter than Japanese ones, which I could really notice.
I paired my hojicha with hazelnut milk—the subtle sweetness and shared nutty flavour made such a lovely harmony. No noticeable tannins, just smooth, gentle comfort in a cup.
If you’re new to hojicha, South Korean varieties might be an easy and delightful introduction. I’ll definitely return to try their matcha next time 💚

[ Sensory Log: Archive 001 ] 🍵🍫
The Elements:
Wenshan Bao Zhong Oolong ()
× Pistachio Dark Chocolate (.uk)
Observations:
Eyes closed. The dry leaves carry the immediate clarity of a mountainside tea garden—crisp, elevated, and deeply green.
The Dialogue:
An interesting interplay. To my palate, the olive-green pistachios offer a vibrant, raw profile that mirrors the tea’s freshness. There is a shared umami in the finish—a brief moment of alignment.
Palate Notes:
In this specific encounter, I found the chocolate’s sweetness and acidity to be quite dominant, potentially masking the Oolong’s more delicate nuances.
Reflections:
A curious experiment in balance. I suspect this cocoa profile might reveal a different character when paired with a robust black tea or an earthy rooibos.

📍Aged Tea Tasting at Postcard Teas

Tasted time itself through 7 aged teas—ranging from delicate white to bold puerh, each carrying years of patience and transformation. The teas spanned from 9 to over 30 years old, and I was especially fascinated by how different storage methods shape the aging process.⁣

It was my first time trying rock teas—like Jin Fo, grown on cliffs, offering a warm depth and subtle astringency that really stayed with me.⁣

But the one that spoke to me most was a Phoenix oolong (肉桂香)—sweet, aromatic, and 10 years aged by Tea Master Lin. ⁣

Maybe it’s the coincidence of sharing the same family name. Or maybe it’s the fact that this tea was produced the very year I left my home country to work and travel abroad. Either way, it felt personal. Meaningful. Like a quiet hello from the past.⁣

🍵✨ Sometimes tea does more than warm the body—it stirs memory, connection, and a sense of home.

🫖 Today I visited in East London ,a beautiful journey through how people have lived over the centuries. From Victorian parlours to modern flats, each room told a story. One thing that stood out? Tea. 🍵

In almost every recreated home, tea had its place — a quiet corner, a cherished ritual. The teaware itself gave clues: which era, which culture, what kind of life the owner might have led. It reminded me how deeply tea is woven into our daily lives, across time and borders.

✨ What about you? What kind of teaware do you have at home now? A family heirloom, a minimalist modern mug, a Japanese kyusu, or something else entirely? Share with us in the comments. I’d love to see your tea corners! 💬

🔥 Hot day in London calls for something cool and comforting — like an iced teh tarik 🧊✨ Paired it with spicy nasi goreng at Roti King, and let me tell you… perfection. 🌶️❤️‍🔥

Teh tarik — Malaysia’s beloved “pulled tea” — is made with strong black tea and sweetened condensed milk, frothed up by pouring it back and forth (yes, pulled) to create that signature creamy foam and smooth texture. ☁️🫖

Chilled over ice, it’s a rich, milky brew with deep caramel notes and a hint of bitterness from the tea. Bold enough to match the heat of the nasi goreng, yet refreshing enough to cool you down. 🌞🥵

If you haven’t had iced teh tarik with spicy food, you’re missing out.

🍇 Afternoon Indulgence: Elderberry, Raisin & Hibiscus 🌺

Today’s cup is bursting with character—deep berry notes from elderberry and raisin, lifted by the tangy brightness of hibiscus petals.

👃 Aroma: Think homemade berry jam on warm toast—rich, sweet, and comforting.
👅 Flavour: Tart and juicy with a mellow sweetness underneath. A lively blend that dances on the tongue, like a fruit punch for grown-ups.

🍰 Pair it with: A slice of lemon drizzle cake or dark chocolate tart. The tea’s tartness balances sweetness beautifully—great for cutting through creamy or buttery textures.

🌿 Vibe: A sunny afternoon, windows open, music low, feet up. This is your moment.

🍒 Tea & Chocolate Moment: Raspberry, Verbena & Black Cherry Bliss 🌿🍫

Today’s tea pairing felt like a little celebration.

A colourful fruit blend made of apple, raspberry, lemon verbena, lemongrass, hibiscus, lemon pieces, and cornflower petals—bursting with juicy, tangy layers.

I paired it with black cherry chocolate and a few Brazil nuts.
The tart cherry in the chocolate echoed the fruity notes in the tea beautifully, while the rich, buttery Brazil nuts grounded everything with their mellow depth.

✨ The lemon verbena gave it all a soothing calm—like sunshine filtering through leaves.

Pairings like this turn a simple tea moment into a sensory ritual.

Do you pair your teas with snacks or sweets? 🍫🌰
