Physiological birth is more than birth without intervention. It’s about protecting a finely tuned biological process that has real benefits for both you and your baby.
When labour starts spontaneously and unfolds without augmentation, your body’s full hormonal cascade can do its job. Oxytocin, endorphins, adrenaline — each plays a role in pain regulation, emotional support, and preparing you and your baby for birth. For you, this supports a smoother recovery, a stronger foundation for bonding, and the deep confidence that comes from moving through birth in your own power. For your baby, it means arriving primed, lungs ready, senses alert, and biologically prepared to feed and connect.
Your body already knows how to do this. Here are some tips to help create the conditions:
✨Protect Your Birth Environment
Hormones flow best when you feel safe and unobserved. Dim the lights, lower voices, reduce interruptions.
✨Work With Gravity
Stay upright. Lean forward. Sway. Circle your hips. Movement helps your baby descend and rotate.
✨Soften Your Jaw
A tight jaw mirrors tension in the pelvic floor. Exhale slowly, make low sounds, stay soft.
✨Stay Inward
Limit early announcements and unnecessary conversation. Let your birth partner hold the space so you can stay in your rhythm.
✨Prepare Before Labour
Learn how birth works. Practise breathing. Rehearse positions. Explore your mindset. Preparation builds calm confidence.
