Psychotherapeutic and Clinical Studies
Properly taught, the ability to induce hypnosis is easy to acquire. However, it takes a long time to learn how to use this skill effectively within a therapeutic framework. We are certainly not content just to give our students an armoury of tools and techniques; one of the strengths of the LCCH course is that it provi
des a thorough background knowledge of the implications and structure of psychotherapies in general and hypnotherapy in particular. The LCCH adheres to the philosophy that we are responsible for our emotions, behaviours, thoughts and psychosomatic symptoms. The psychotherapeutic models and techniques taught enable practitioners to better assist their patients by helping them to understand and change their unhealthy emotional states, and self-limiting behaviours, to healthy emotional states and self-helping behaviours. We also ensure that would-be hypnotherapy practitioners recognise, and apply, within an hypnotic context, the treatment most appropriate to their patient and the condition itself. This is done by means of clinical studies, personal supervision and continuous assessment throughout both the Certificate in Clinical Hypnosis course and the Practitioner Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy course. Once trained, you will find that you have skills which can help relieve suffering and discomfort in others. It is essential, however, to understand hypnotherapy’s limitations as well. These healing skills carry an enormous responsibility and great care must be taken to avoid harm which could result from their injudicious use. Research
The LCCH conducts on-going scientific research into hypnosis and allied fields. We are constantly seeking to advance our knowledge of hypnosis in the therapeutic context, with the aim of improving the efficacy of treatments. We have produced highly original and effective methodologies for the treatment of certain conditions that are intractable to ordinary psychotherapy. Our two-stage technique for dealing with obsessive compulsive disorders (OCDs) has evoked much interest amongst therapists of all persuasions. In addition, some of our studies obtaining normative data from the population on the extent of certain psychological problems, have attracted the attention of the media in this country and abroad. Reports on an extensive survey of travel phobias, conducted by the LCCH, were published in The Times, The Independent on Sunday, and several tabloid newspapers. External Affiliations
The LCCH does not belong to any ‘Complementary Medical Organisation’, because we do not believe that hypnotherapy is a form of medicine, be it traditional or alternative/ complementary. However, we are aware of the government’s recent record of legislation for specified professions, and we are actively campaigning for and will support any governmental attempts to legislate for the hypnotherapeutic profession, in its own right. We also recognise that counselling skills are an important element in any hypnotherapeutic session and this is reflected in the special module(s) presented on the Practitioner Diploma course and LCCH Advanced Studies. The LCCH is approved by local Social Services departments and Health Authorities to offer continuing education and training to their employees, and students should contact their own department for funding. Mary McCallum Scholarship
The LCCH proudly offers the ‘Mary McCallum Scholarship’ for the benefit of charitable organisations and their users. The Scholarship is open to both medical and non-medical applicants recommended by their own charities and entitles the recipient to undertake the full LCCH training. Fees
Unlike other training colleges, all course fees are payable to the LCCH on a ‘pay-as-you-learn’ basis. The usual method of payment comprises a modest initial deposit at the time of booking, followed either by balance of the fee during the first weekend of the Certificate Course, or equal proportions of the balance of the fee during the first, fourth and eighth weekends of the Practitioner Diploma Course. Every effort will be made, however, to meet the needs of students who wish to pay their fees otherwise. Student Liaison and Back-up
We find that many of our applicants welcome the opportunity to talk to a student liaison officer so that they can ask more about the details of the course, methods of study, fee arrangements, and the amount of work involved. During their studies, they may need information or help with matters outside the scope of their supervision. Once qualified, they may also need advice and support in their practice. The LCCH has always maintained a close and special relationship with former students and they are encouraged to keep in touch with the College. Many of our graduates who become successful practitioners go on to tutor/supervise/lecture for the College. For every practitioner with a difficult case there is always someone a phone call away at one of our six national student liaison centres to assist with practical advice. Equal Opportunities and Special Needs
The LCCH has an equal opportunities policy and a code of practice on equal opportunities for students which cover admissions. We welcome applications from students with special needs and this should be discussed at the initial interview. Students need to be aware that assessments for special learning needs can take several months. This should be considered by students when deciding to enrol, in order to allow sufficient time for the special needs assessments to be carried out prior to exams or essays being completed. No special consideration can be given to any student without a special needs assessment being carried out. Terms and Conditions

LCCH Teacher Training
The LCCH aims to present the course material in as interesting and informative a way as possible. To this end, lecturers are chosen from among practitioners who have demonstrated expertise in particular areas of hypnotherapy. As they are all practising therapists, they can add their own practical experience to the theories taught on the course. On-going training in presentation and information gathering skills is given by senior members of the LCCH faculty, to ensure our lecturers/tutors always maintain a consistently high standard.
