🇬🇧 How was your September?
In the Onaki Wellbeing monthly newsletter, you get a reading on the energies for the month ahead, with one oracle card and five tarot cards. For September, the cards invited us to be true and honest, towards ourselves and others, as well as being kind. It was about planting a nurturing seed and looking after it, to help it grow. Having worked in the for over 10 years has come with its load of mental health challenges: stress, pressure, deadlines, never empty mailbox, out of hours calls, to do list we never get to the bottom of... I was never one to talk much when things weren’t going so well. Except that one day it became all just too much. Burn out, breakdown, depression, dark night of the soul… Call it what you like, but it was freaking real and painful and it felt like it was never going to end.

It taught me one thing though, and that’s maybe the most important thing I’ve learned in my life: we are in charge. The “negative” thoughts will not go away, the dreaded emotions they trigger will still affect our mood and motivation, because they’re normal and part of the way our brain works. But with time and hard work we can learn to change the way we react to them and how we let them affect us. This is the key takeaway of this program.

For this program, I’ve put together from my own personal experience a series of exercises, 1 per week for 9 weeks, made of techniques which I’ve all used and am still using such as CBT, mindfulness, etc... I’m not a professional counsellor or therapist but for what it’s worth you also get unlimited email support during the programme, because sometimes it’s just nice to know someone who has been there. This is what has helped me get myself back on track from the depths I was in, the programme I wish I could have had at the time.
