Christmas playlist on🎤, anyone?

I spotted this magical little installation on my way to work this morning, while basking in that rare winter sunshine before the temperature absolutely plummeted. ❄️ London really said: festive… but freezing.

For anyone feeling the weight of SAD (seasonal affective disorder) or just a bit foggy-headed this time of year — do step outside if you can. Even five minutes of crisp fresh air and unexpected sunshine helps me shake off that cold-morning mental haze.

And yes… SPF still applies, even on cloudy winter days.
(Trust the pharmacist in me — UV doesn’t take seasonal leave.)

My colleague even made me a hot chocolate when he saw my confused, half-asleep face this morning 😅. It was the perfect pick-me-up.

I hope you find your own little lift today — a brisk walk between meetings, a comforting warm drink, or a favourite playlist that resets your mood.

Have a cosy Monday and a gentle week ahead, y’all! ✨

💫The skin that loved renewal

This lovely client’s results are after three sessions of basic microneedling — nothing fancy, no special serums, just classic, honest collagen induction therapy doing what it does best:
smoother texture, calmer pigmentation, refined pores and that soft, radiant glow that looks beautifully unforced.

One thing I adore about microneedling (and why it remains a favourite in my clinic) is how thorough it is.
It treats the entire face and neck, not just one area — so the overall result looks naturally even, harmonious, and never patchy.
It’s a treatment that truly respects the skin’s biology:
a controlled micro-injury → optimal wound-healing cascade → stronger, brighter, healthier skin over time.

And it’s wonderfully adaptable:
you can keep it simple (like this client — just the device alone),
or elevate it with polynucleotides, exosomes or skin boosters when your skin is ready for a more intensive renewal.

Microneedling gives you that reliable foundation — it’s the “gym membership” for your skin.
Then injectables? Those are the “personal trainer” sessions you sprinkle in when you want a more targeted boost.

That’s why I often start clients with microneedling:
it strengthens the barrier, improves texture, and sets the perfect stage for advanced injectables to work even better.
For anyone eyeing PN or skin boosters this winter (yes, next week I’ll be talking more about these 🔔), microneedling often prepares the canvas beautifully.

Skin that renews itself gracefully, safely, and scientifically — my favourite combination.

With care,
Shin Ru

❄️Why Winter Is Secretly the Best Time for Microneedling ❄️

Winter is the quiet overachiever of skin renewal. While we’re all defrosting cars in the morning, your skin is quietly thinking, “Finally, low UV… I can heal in peace.”

Here’s why winter wins:

⛄Low UV = calmer healing
Less UV stress means less inflammation and smoother recovery for freshly-needled skin.

⛄Winter recovery is easier
In summer, my clients leave looking like undercover detectives — hat, sunglasses, mask, the full incognito mode.
In winter? The sun clocks out early. A soft scarf is all you need.

⛄Cool air soothes (but hydrate!)
Cold = calming.
Dry = not so calming.
So your recovery routine is a cosy one: barrier balm, simple moisturiser, no actives for 5–7 days.

⛄The ideal “skin reset” season
Winter gives your skin the calm and consistency it needs to reboot collagen before spring.

Aftercare tip:
No SPF for 24 hours.
If we get that random burst of British winter sunshine, just let your scarf sit loosely over the lower face — warm, gentle, protective. Sunglasses optional… but if you wear them in November, I fully support the fashion statement.

"Would you like some chocolate on top?" Asked the kind barista when I collected my takeaway cappuccino. I normally order amwricano but today I woke up thinking I should give myself a treat on a rainy Monday. He added another layer of kindness, much needed today.

Elegant Theory's Instagram might be quiet recently. I've been learning new skills, venturing new clinic spaces, and resting in between. Thank you for still reading my posts! Regular posting will resume shortly!

It's Monday and at Elegant Theory Aesthetics, it's self care Monday.

Today the kindness of the barista made my day. Have you received or dispensed (mind my pharmacist language!) any kindness today?
👇🏻👇🏻 Comment to tell me. Be kind to one another, and to yourself, we are stronger together.

💧 “Barrier Repair Isn’t Boring”

Some products just stay in your rotation — not because they’re trendy, but because they work.

I’ve seen this range on dermatology letters countless times in my pharmacist role, and now it’s become my own skin’s quiet hero post-Rejuran.

💧 La Roche-Posay Cicaplast — gentle enough for post-treatment skin, powerful enough to repair a compromised barrier.

What I love most is the flexibility: different formulations for different needs throughout the season — and sometimes all in one day!

☁️ The spray for when I need a hydrating top-up over make-up (or when my hands are full with the kids).

💦 The gel in the morning for that fresh, breathable start.

🩵 And the balm in the evening — thicker, like a duvet, but still lets your skin breathe.

Because looking after your skin is a bit like dressing for the famous British weather — not just about layers, but being ready for sudden sunshine and surprise showers.

I’ve also been giving out samples of the Cicaplast Balm to clients post-treatment — I hope you love them as much as I do! It’s one of those pharmacy-formulated staples that quietly does the job without fuss.

🧴 No affiliation, no paid partnership — just genuine pharmacist recommendations from someone who only shares products that deliver results and support skin recovery.

🌿 Ending the week with a little reflection — and a dose of science.

I often get asked which treatment gives the “best results.”
The truth? There isn’t one perfect answer — only what’s right for you.

✨ Toxin helps soften movement lines and keep expressions looking fresh — it’s a prescription-only medicine that must be administered by qualified professionals in the UK.

🧬 Polynucleotides are the new generation of regenerative treatments — helping your skin rebuild collagen and calm inflammation from within. They don’t change your features; they enhance your skin’s own ability to thrive.

💧 Skin Boosters restore hydration, firmness and that natural glow. Think of them as a moisture reservoir your skin can actually use.

Personally, I’ve chosen to focus on regenerative aesthetics — treatments that strengthen what’s already there instead of reshaping what isn’t. But for those who might benefit from other options like dermal fillers, I have wonderful, trusted medical colleagues to refer you to.

💧 Because good aesthetics isn’t about doing everything — it’s about doing the right things, really well.

Wishing you a calm Sunday and skin that feels quietly confident for the week ahead 🤍

✨ Choose what’s right for you — and who’s right for you.

I’ve been thinking a lot about how we choose our treatments — and our practitioners.

After my Rejuran (Polynucleotide) session, I’m still in that quiet in-between phase. A few faint bruises remain, and I can still feel tiny bumps when cleansing — but the calm, hydrated glow underneath is starting to show.

I went for Rejuran not because it’s trending (though it’s a huge name in Korea), but because it fits my skin and my schedule. I don’t have the luxury of frequent visits or long recovery days, so I choose treatments that are evidence-based, efficient, and kind to busy skin.

That’s also why I only work with practitioners I trust — those who know my skin, my tolerance, and my lifestyle. The right injector understands balance: not too much, not too soon, and never one-size-fits-all.

💉 I’ve already offered Rejuran microneedling in clinic with lovely feedback, but I wanted to experience the injectable version myself — to understand its texture, its healing pace, and how it fits within my own practice before introducing it more widely.

Because when it comes to skin health, good results start long before the needle — they start with informed choices and trust.

💧 Choose what’s right for you, with someone who understands you.

✨ It wasn’t just me-time — it was a me-week.

48 hours after my Rejuran (Polynucleotide) treatment — when my skin was still quietly rebuilding itself — I decided to keep things slow and low. No actives, no makeup, no multitasking. Just a gentle cleanser, a barrier repair cream to lock in moisture, and plenty of patience.

At that stage, I still had faint bruises under my eyes and tiny needle marks across my cheeks — all normal, all part of the healing journey. They faded quickly, but I rather liked seeing them; they reminded me my skin was quietly doing its job.

This time, I turned recovery into a rhythm:
🍿 snack night one evening,
📺 TV the next,
😴 early bedtime after that,
💬 and a meet-up with my girlfriends to remind myself that connection is self-care too.

I tried to do nothing… but the mum in me couldn’t quite resist tidying in between. Let’s just say my skin rested better than my hands. 😅

So yes — only one post from me this week. I kept the evenings gentle and offline, just as I kept my skincare minimal. It felt good to walk my own talk on recovery — for my skin and my mind.

Underneath, fibroblasts were busy, collagen quietly forming — and I was healing too, in my own way.

We talk about me-time, but maybe we all need more me-weeks — little pauses to care for the woman beneath the skincare.

💧 The glow isn’t just from Rejuran — it’s from resting, nourishing, and trusting your skin to do its work.

🌕 Little Steps, Steady Grow

This week felt like a blur of caffeine, conversations and quiet admin marathons — clinic notes, supplier calls, and trying to sound like a functioning adult while learning new treatment protocols over lunch. ☕💉📋

I’ve been exploring partnering options with local salons and testing a few new products that I’m genuinely excited about (and slightly nerdy over). It’s that in-between stage of business where things aren’t exploding overnight, but they’re slowly, surely falling into place.

Growth doesn’t always look glamorous — sometimes it’s replying to emails at odd hours, restocking syringes, or updating treatment consent forms for the tenth time. But quietly, it’s happening.

Like skin renewal, progress happens layer by layer.
Your skin doesn’t transform overnight — it adapts, repairs, strengthens. The same goes for building something meaningful. Some days are hydrating and smooth; others are a little exfoliating — but both move you closer to balance.

As autumn settles in, I’m slowing down to learn, reflect and refine — for my clients, my skin, and this growing dream of mine. 🍂

Here’s to learning new protocols, finding the right partners, and embracing every stage of growth — scientifically and personally. ✨

In skincare and in life — consistency builds the barrier, and patience brings the glow. 🌙

🍁 Why Your Skin Barrier Matters This Autumn

The British weather has been all over the place — cold mornings, surprise summer days, stormy weekends and sudden sunshine. ☀️🌧️🌬️

All these changes don’t just confuse our wardrobe — they stress our skin barrier.

Your skin barrier is the outermost layer that keeps hydration in and irritants out — think of it as your body’s protective seal. When it’s weakened, skin feels tight, dry, itchy, or looks dull.

✨ What helps:

🍂Gentle cleanser, creamy moisturiser
🍂Humectants (hyaluronic acid, glycerin)
🍂Barrier-supporting treatments like polynucleotides or skin boosters
🍂A few drops of facial oil at night — helps seal in moisture and calm inflammation by reinforcing your lipid layer (pharmacist-approved tip 💧).

I’ve started feeling it in my own skin — tighter, drier, especially when I’m tired.
I’m due for my 6-month Profhilo top-up, but this time… I’m trying something new. 👀
Can’t wait to share the results soon!

So this autumn, give your skin barrier the same care you’d give your favourite knit — keep it soft, protected, and never over-washed. 🍂

Healthy barrier, happy skin. 💧

🌕 A Joyful Heart This Mid-Autumn

The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most cherished celebrations in my culture — symbolising family reunion, gratitude, and light.

I didn’t manage to tick all the boxes this year — and that’s ok.
Between work, parenting, and clinic life, I kept reminding myself: be present.

We ended up laughing over our failed pomelo lantern (a glorious disaster 😂) and that became the sweetest memory — much better than a perfectly planned but rushed, grumpy evening.

✨ Not everything has to go to plan to be beautiful.
This season, I’m learning to take a step back, breathe, and start again — with a joyful heart.

And maybe your skin needs that too — a pause, a reset, and a gentle restart when it’s ready. 🍂

Under the same moon, may we all find our light and our calm. 🌕

📰 The BBC recently reported on collagen supplements — and the evidence remains limited.

Here’s my pharmacist take 👇
💊 Supplements are just that: a supplement to what your body already has. They can be nice-to-have, but absorption in the gut is complex — meaning results are often minimal.
⚠️ Plus, there are many supplement brands with no strict regulation on quality. If you do buy them, always choose a trusted, reputable brand.

☀️ Daily SPF — your best defence against collagen breakdown.
UVA rays reach the deeper skin layers where collagen lives. They trigger enzymes that break collagen down, leading to fine lines, wrinkles and sagging. And unlike UVB, UVA is present all year round — even on cloudy days, even through glass. That’s why daily SPF is non-negotiable.

✨ For real change, we need to strengthen your body’s own collagen factory:
💉 Microneedling, polynucleotides, skin boosters → stimulate fibroblasts and rebuild collagen at the source.

At Elegant Theory Aesthetics, I only work with trusted, licensed UK & EU-approved brands — treatments backed by science and regulated for safety.

Because your skin deserves care that’s more than marketing promises.

Evidence-based. Pharmacist-led. Safe by design.

Shin Ru
