What to expect and what happens to you physically in eating disorder recovery isn't often spoken about. Weight restoration is often a vital step in the recovery from an eating disorder, but it’s also one of the most challenging.

Recovering from an eating disorder involves both physical and emotional healing. A critical part of this process is nutritional rehabilitation, often referred to as weight restoration. It’s more than just reaching a healthy weight—it’s about restoring normal bodily functions and improving mental well-being.

However, this journey can be emotionally challenging, with concerns around body image, fear, and anxiety being common. Understanding what to expect—like initial rapid weight gain, digestive discomfort, and the temporary disruption of hunger signals—can help ease the process.

Support from healthcare professionals, family, and therapy is essential. Nutritional rehabilitation, while tough, is a necessary step towards long-term recovery and building a positive relationship with food and body image.

Recovery is a journey, and every step forward is progress.
