When someone feels safe, their body just lets go —

muscles soften, breath slows and they sink into the touch.

Keep the room warm and calm, speak plainly and gently about what you’re doing, and always check pressure and consent so nothing feels sudden or forced.

Move with slow, confident strokes, building depth gradually, and use steady, reassuring presence rather than rushing.

Little supports like bolsters and pillows help them relax into the table, and guiding a couple of slow breaths together can make a big difference.

We call this co-regulation.
