Well done Davina for making menopause a topic of conversation.๐
Despite it being something that every woman will go through, usually as a life stage, commonly between the ages of 45 and 55 years of age, although it can start earlier, and for others it may be medically induced, it remains a taboo subject.
For some women it can pass like a breeze but for others they may experience a range of symptoms that can be debilitating and, whilst this remains a taboo subject for many, a very lonely experience. It can be preceded by symptoms of peri-menopause which can last for up to a decade beforehand!
We need to discuss this more, not just amongst ourselves in the sisterhood but generally. Men, children, employers and many GPS need to be educated about how it can affect us so that they are better able to support us and offer us compassion.
The more we talk about it, the more that we can help and support each other at this stage of life rather than believe that it is something that 'we just have to get on with it'. We also have to remember to be kind to ourselves. ๐ฅฐ
