Over the next 3 weeks you may see posts on our college social media that are in collaboration with World Medicine.
This is because two of our fabulous Executive Management team have gone on an adventure to India to set up Chaparda Acupuncture Camp for this year, as many of our CICM teachers have done so in the past.
World Medicine was set up by one of our college graduates is a UK registered charity providing acupuncture to people around the world suffering the effects of trauma, disaster or poverty.
When asked about why she decided to volunteer for this trip, Neena Thakkar, our college Operations Director said, “Since qualifying as an acupuncturist, I have supported ukranian refugees and continue to work at least one day in a low cost acupuncture clinic.
I wanted to become an acupuncturist specifically because I wanted to help others directly. This is a cause I am very passionate about, not least because the hospital is in the Gujarat, where my parents were born.
I want the skills, qualities, and attributes I have built up over the years to be put to even more good use, and hopefully make a difference to a community.”
The college Student Experience Director, Sara Lacey, shared similar reasons for wanting to join the team on this trip - “My volunteer work with refugees and asylum seekers has deepened my love, appreciation and awe of this incredible medicine.
Acupuncture goes beyond culture or language and allows us to heal people, not just on a physical level, but an emotional and spiritual one, too.
I feel privileged everyday that I get to walk into clinic or college and cannot believe I am lucky enough to call this my work. I cannot wait to spread the joy of acupuncture to people in need further afield.”
And we absolutely cannot wait to see what they get up to on this exciting journey, and to share some of their posts and acupuncture experiences with you all!
