Full-Filling Nutrition has come about to form a community where we can share and care. and swap information and educate about all things Full and Filling, for the body, the soul, the heart and the mind. After being diagnosed with Type1 diabetes 8 years ago,I ended up studying nutrition to better understand my condition. I've subsequently realised I am not alone in needing that understanding and Full-Filling Nutrition will hopefully bridge the gap between science, medicine and food.I trained in optimum nutrition, learning how to get the most out of my food and how to best nourish and support my body. My course was also based around the Functional Medicine model, which I believe is the way medicine should be headed. It is a multi-systems approach, looking at the cause and not just the symptoms... and we look at ourselves and our environments as being connected too. It takes 'we are what we eat' to a whole new level. The vision of the page is to educate on ways to support the body... both on the physical and the spirit&emotional level. We will focus on ways to control our blood sugar balance – it is not something only diabetics should be concerned with, high sugars in the blood have been connected with heart health, brain health, premature ageing, and much more – and it is something we can all work on. We will also look at ways to support the liver... be it with diet, tips, lifestyle changes etc, it is as simple as knowing what to put in your body and what your liver needs so that it can work efficiently... it is doing over 400 things for you, why not do some things specifically for it? We will also look at ways of supporting other body systems, and addressing and alleviating stress... there is always a thought/smile for the day included. Another thing that takes focus is optimising our nutrition. What that means is basically how to get the most out of our food. We want our food to be full-filling and nourishing, as we do our lives. Some advice/information will directed specifically at diabetes, as this is an area I'm passionate about. With most Type 1 diabetics facing statistics of increased blindness, loss of limbs, decreased heart and brain health, and the ultimate 'nasty' of a lesser life-span, Full-Filling Nutrition would like to look at ways to support the body and the spirit to make us stronger... we don't have to be a statistic if we have the tools to prevent it. Then there are our friends, the pre-diabetics, those with metabolic syndrome, and Type 2 diabetes... where diet and lifestyle choices can make a huge difference... if you know what to do, more specifically, if you know what to do for you. This is also why we have the specific points of blood sugar balance, liver support, healthy ageing, weight management, healthy and optimal eating...
Full-Filling Nutrition is a community--based platform where relevant info is posted, along with some food for the heart and food for the soul, that allows fellow food-lovers, those n the health and wellness industry, diabetics, diabetic-carers and family members, and educators to share what we are doing and saying, and to act as a one-stop visit where all info will be available on a single page. There will be links to posts, allowing anyone who visits the page to find what they need/be inspired/ be educated... and then hopefully be able to transfer to the page they require. For the greater part, the content should be informative, positive, uplifting, educational and a little promotional... allowing for us to have a place where we can all share our voices, ideas and any future events/plans. It will include some positive posts and pictures, some recipes, some info....however, will ultimately act as resource for better communication amongst ourselves. Post up new info, new links, recipes, points of interest, workshops, conferences etc. If we know who is doing what when, we can: a) support you; b)promote you; c) be sure not to clash with your dates...
The page will also be open to the public so hopefully it will allow greater exposure. It is easy to get lost in the ether, so hopefully having us all under one banner page will indeed aid us all in finding any link we may need ... and indeed be Full-Filling with all things nutrition and food based. These are stunning examples of how we can eat a rainbow. I love how added protein has been added in the form of nuts or hummus… how it’s all raw and crunchy and colourful and delicious. There’s some oil too so that all those fat-soluble vitamins get a chance to be absorbed too.

You all know I’m a huge fan of Eating a Rainbow and here’s a resource to help do so from the rainbow queen herself.

Many thanks to Deanna Minich, PhD for this colourful info. The download link is in Deanna’s post. It’s great to print out and put on your refrigerator door, reminding yourself to add as many colours and varieties as possible to every meal.

Why stop at 5-a-day when you can Eat a Rainbow. Remember that herbs and spices add phytonutrients as well as flavour, they’re a great way to add some colour too.
