When I was brand new to working out, the weights area gave me the absolute fear.
So, before any of my clients even think about lifting, we start with simple at-home tests & here’s 2 of them (no gym, no faffing about).
1️⃣ The Wall Angel Test:
Back up against the wall (bend your knees if you need).
If lifting your hands feels awkward or jammed — you’ve no business shoulder pressing both arms at once.
That’s criminal behaviour and I won’t stand for it 😅
If you can press your hands up whilst keeping everything glued to the wall, that's a great start!
2️⃣ The Deep Squat Test:
See if you can sit into a deep squat — with or without holding onto something.
If you nearly topple over, don’t panic — it just means your hips are tighter than your jeans after Christmas dinner. It can be fixed.
You don’t have to throw yourself into the deep end to start strong.
You just need to meet your body where it’s at — and build from there.
