Today at church I had the honour of reading from Proverbs written by King Solomon, one of the wisest men in scripture.
The verse spoke about giving to the poor and lending to the Lord, and I wanted to explain something important because so many people misunderstand what tithing actually is.
Giving to the church is not about trying to “buy blessings” or treating God like a transaction machine waiting for prosperity in return.
We give to grow the Kingdom ✝️
We give because the church provides refuge for people spiritually and physically. If somebody is struggling, broken, lost or searching for truth, the church should be a place they can walk into and find guidance, love and support.
We give because pastors dedicate their lives to serving others and teaching the Word of God.
We give because churches have real responsibilities -
• Keeping the doors open
• Paying rent and electricity
• Supporting ministry work
• Maintaining the building
• Providing instruments and resources for worship
• Helping people in need
Most importantly, we give because we want more people to hear the teachings of Jesus Christ and become disciples of Him.
The church I attend in Paphos is called Petra Fellowship. It’s a non-denominational Christian church where sound doctrine is taught directly from scripture with no watered-down messages, no performance, just the Word of God and the teachings of Christ.
If you’ve been searching for a church home or simply want to learn more about Jesus, you are more than welcome to join us.
Sunday service starts at 10:30am.
