✨ Raising Awareness of Rhinophyma Treatment

We wanted to re-share Sam’s treatment journey to help raise awareness of rhinophyma — a condition that is often misunderstood, underdiagnosed and mistaken for simply having “thick skin”.

Rhinophyma is a progressive form of rosacea that causes thickening of the skin and soft tissue of the nose, often resulting in enlargement, irregular texture and distortion of the natural nasal shape over time.

Before finding Dr H Consult, Sam had previously undergone rhinoplasty surgery elsewhere after being told his concerns were simply due to “thick skin”. Unfortunately, the underlying rhinophyma had not been diagnosed or treated.

Using specialist laser surgery techniques, Dr H was able to remove the excess diseased tissue, reshape the nose and restore a more natural nasal contour.

This treatment journey highlights an important point:
In many rhinophyma cases, the issue is not cartilage or bone structure — it is excess soft tissue and skin thickening that requires specialist laser treatment.

Benefits of laser rhinophyma treatment can include:
• Reduction in excess tissue thickness
• Restoration of natural nasal shape
• Smoother skin texture
• Improved facial balance and proportion
• Long-term management of rhinophyma changes

As Sam explains in this video, the emotional impact of rhinophyma can be significant, affecting confidence and self-image for many years before patients discover effective treatment options exist.

We are incredibly grateful to Sam for sharing his story and helping raise awareness for others who may be struggling with similar concerns.

✨ Keloid Scar Treatment Journey – 8 Months of Progress for Nancy ()

In this video, we’re sharing Nancy’s keloid scar treatment journey from her very first session through to session 8 over an 8-month period.

Nancy presented with extensive keloid scarring affecting the shoulders and chest following acne that progressed into keloid formation.

Keloid scars can be extremely challenging to treat and often require a long-term, multi-modal treatment approach tailored to the individual patient.

Throughout her treatment journey, Dr H has used a combination of:
🔸 Lutronic Derma V vascular laser treatment to target the blood vessels feeding the keloid scars, helping to reduce redness and ongoing scar activity.
🔸 Intralesional injections using a combined 5-FU compound and Kenalog steroid to help flatten, soften and improve the texture of the scars.

This video highlights the gradual progression that can be achieved over time with consistency, patience and specialist treatment.

Keloid scar treatment is rarely an overnight process, however significant improvements in:
• scar thickness
• redness
• texture
• discomfort
• overall appearance

can often be achieved with the correct management plan.

We are incredibly grateful to Nancy for documenting and sharing her journey so openly to help educate and support others dealing with keloid scarring.

Dr H performing advanced laser treatment for facial thread veins and periorbital eye veins ✨

Visible red, blue, green and purple veins on the face and around the eyes can be extremely difficult to conceal and often require specialist laser technology for safe and effective treatment.

Laser remains the gold standard treatment for facial veins when the appropriate device and expertise are used.

At Dr H Consult, treatment is tailored to the specific vessel type using advanced vascular laser technology including:
• Nd 1064nm laser
• 532nm KTP laser
• Pulsed Dye Laser (595nm)

These lasers allow precise treatment of:
• Larger deeper facial veins
• Fine thread veins
• Diffuse redness
• Periorbital eye veins
• Small capillaries around the eye area

Unlike IPL devices or sclerotherapy around the eye area, specialist vascular lasers allow targeted treatment with a strong focus on both safety and results.

Benefits of treatment include:
• Reduction in visible facial veins
• Improved redness and skin clarity
• Minimal downtime
• Long-term results
• Often only 1–3 treatment sessions required

At Dr H Consult, treatment is supported by:
• Ultrasound-guided diagnostics
• 3D LifeViz imaging
• Advanced ocular protection techniques where required

Successful treatment of facial and periorbital veins requires extensive specialist training, experience and understanding of laser-tissue interaction — particularly around the delicate eye area.

Dr H performing laser treatment for surgical scar management ✨

While surgical scars are an unavoidable part of many medical and cosmetic procedures, their appearance can often be significantly improved with early intervention and specialist scar treatment.

This patient pre-planned treatment of her scars with Dr H prior to surgery, allowing scar management to commence within the optimal healing timeframe to help achieve faster and more effective reduction in scar visibility.

At Dr H Consult, advanced laser technology can be used to help:
• Reduce scar redness (erythema)
• Improve hyperpigmentation
• Flatten raised hypertrophic scars
• Improve indented or atrophic scarring
• Blend scars more naturally into the surrounding skin
• Improve overall scar texture and appearance

Early treatment can play an important role in optimising long-term scar outcomes, particularly when combined with a tailored treatment plan and appropriate aftercare.

Every scar behaves differently depending on factors such as:
• Surgical technique
• Skin type
• Genetics
• Scar location
• Healing response

This is why an individualised, medically-led approach is essential.

Dr H discusses the benefits of cold ablation technology with ✨

Cold ablative laser technology is one of the latest advancements in laser resurfacing, allowing effective skin rejuvenation with significantly less thermal damage and downtime compared to traditional fully ablative lasers.

Unlike conventional CO2 resurfacing lasers, cold ablation technology delivers precise skin resurfacing while minimising excessive heat within the skin, helping to reduce prolonged redness, inflammation and recovery time.

Benefits of cold ablation include:
• Improved skin texture and tone
• Collagen remodelling
• Reduction in fine lines and wrinkles
• Treatment of pigmentation and sun damage
• Faster healing and recovery
• Reduced residual redness and inflammation
• Less thermal injury to surrounding tissue
• Lower downtime compared to traditional ablative resurfacing

One of the major advantages of cold ablation technology is the reduced thermal injury to the skin, allowing quicker epidermal recovery and less prolonged inflammation compared to traditional fully ablative CO2 lasers — making it an excellent option for patients seeking skin rejuvenation during the summer months.

Cold ablation can be tailored for:
• Younger skin types looking for texture refinement and rejuvenation
• Older skin types requiring deeper resurfacing and wrinkle improvement

As with all resurfacing laser treatments, strict SPF use and careful sun protection remain essential following treatment.

Treat the acne first. Then treat the scarring ✨

In this video, Dr H explains one of the most important principles in acne scar treatment — active acne must first be properly controlled before embarking on treatments such as laser resurfacing or subcision.

Many patients focus understandably on the scarring itself, however if active acne continues, new scars can continue to form and even interfere with healing following scar treatments.

At Dr H Consult, we take a comprehensive and medically-led approach to acne and acne scarring treatment.

This may include:
• Prescription acne medication
• Medical management of active acne
• Laser treatment for acne scarring
• Subcision or punch excision
• Tailored long-term treatment planning

For many patients, the acne and scar treatment journey can take time, however addressing the underlying cause first is essential in achieving the best long-term outcome.

If you are struggling to get your acne under control, worried about developing acne scarring or finding it difficult to access treatment through your GP, our team can help.

• Smoother skin texture around the mouth
• Removal of sun-damaged tissue
• Skin resurfacing and renewal
• Natural-looking results
• Long-term improvement

Benefits of cold ablation technology include:
• Treatment of sun damage and pigmentation
• Improved skin texture and tone
• Removal of damaged skin cells
• Faster healing compared to traditional ablative lasers
• Reduced prolonged redness and inflammation
• Collagen stimulation and skin renewal

Unlike more aggressive “hot” ablative lasers, cold ablation technology allows effective resurfacing with a more controlled recovery process.

Common treatment areas include:
• Hands
• Forearms
• Chest

Dr H discusses how cold ablation laser technology can be used to treat sun damage on the body ✨

Areas such as the chest, arms and legs are commonly affected by cumulative sun exposure over time, often leading to pigmentation, uneven skin texture and visible signs of photodamage.

Cold ablative laser technology allows damaged, sun-exposed skin cells to be precisely resurfaced while minimising excessive heat within the skin.

Unlike traditional CO2 or Erbium lasers, cold ablation technology is designed to:
• Reduce excess heat injury
• Minimise prolonged redness and inflammation
• Lower downtime and recovery time
• Reduce risk of scarring
• Promote healthier skin renewal

By removing damaged epidermal tissue, the skin is able to regenerate with healthier new cell populations, improving:
• Sun damage
• Pigmentation
• Skin texture
• Overall skin quality

Common treatment areas include:
• Chest
• Arms
• Legs
• Other areas affected by long-term sun exposure

Recovery typically takes around a couple of weeks as the skin heals and renews itself.

✨ Combination Laser Resurfacing with Dr H ✨

In this procedure, Dr H combines two advanced resurfacing technologies to treat different areas of the face according to the skin’s specific needs.

✔️ Fully ablative CO₂ laser around the eyes
✔️ UltraClear cold ablation for the rest of the face

💡 Why combine treatments?

The skin around the eyes is thinner and more prone to:
• Fine lines
• Early laxity
• Loss of elasticity

In this patient, there was enough skin laxity to benefit from tightening, but not enough excess skin to justify surgical blepharoplasty.

For this reason, Dr H performed:
✨ Full ablative CO₂ resurfacing around the eyelids and under-eye area to achieve significant tightening and collagen remodelling.

For the rest of the face, the patient’s skin quality remained relatively strong, so a more aggressive treatment was unnecessary.

Instead, Dr H used:
✨ cold ablation resurfacing to refresh the skin, improve pigmentation and sun damage, and create an even, blended result across the entire face.

💡 The benefit of combination resurfacing:

✔️ Targeted treatment where needed
✔️ Tightening around the eyes
✔️ Improvement in texture & pigmentation
✔️ More balanced healing
✔️ Reduced risk of demarcation lines
✔️ Natural, harmonious rejuvenation

Every face ages differently — and combination resurfacing allows treatment to be fully tailored to the patient rather than using a “one size fits all” approach.
