This is my lovely patient Sharon who is now 8 months after her procedure. As can be seen this is a permanent procedure and does not have to be repeated.

Rhinophyma Surgery by DrH

Rhinophyma is a condition that he specialises in treating. DrH treats and performs more Rhinophyma Laser Surgery in the UK than any other surgeon.

It is an honour and a privilege and thoroughly satisfying to reconstruct these deformed noses.

The sad thing is our healthcare system ignores the treatment of rosacea. As a result poorly treated rosacea then results in thickening of the skin of the nose.

It can be prevented from happening in the first place. Oral Isotretinoin is the appropriate treatment for this patient to be started after his recovery. This will allow him to not develop this problem again.

The sad fact is that had he been taken seriously and his rosacea treated with low dose Isotretinoin early then this could have been prevented early.

The issue is that doctors and dermatologists dismiss rosacea and classify this as a cosmetic issue. It is not a cosmetic issue. It is a disease that if left untreated causes significant nasal deformity. This then causes the very deformity - Rhinophyma - that the NHS routinely turns down and dismisses as a cosmetic issue.

This must stop. Doctors, GPs and dermatologists - next time you fob this off with a bit of topical therapy and commit these patients to suffer or scare them off Isotretinoin therapy which will prevent and treat this then think how you would feel if you had the same issue and a colleague dismissed it as 'merely cosmetic'.
