Addiction isn’t always a choice.
It’s often a response to pain, trauma, loss, or overwhelming life experiences.

And it doesn’t just affect one person, it impacts entire families.
The silence, shame, and misunderstanding can be just as heavy as the addiction itself.

Whether you’re the person struggling, or someone who loves them, know this:
You are not alone.
You do not have to carry this in isolation.
You deserve support without judgement.

💬 Let’s challenge the stigma.
Let’s stop asking “What’s wrong with them?”
And start asking “What happened and what support is needed?”

If you or someone you care about is affected by addiction, there are organisations who understand:

🔹 Adfam – for families affected by drugs and alcohol
🔹 Addiction Family Support – for confidential advice and connection
🔹 Change Grow Live – for trauma-informed addiction recovery and community support

💛 No shame. No blame. Just support.
Let’s talk more, understand more, judge less, and stand beside people, not above them.

We don’t always realise what our children notice.
They don’t always tell us but they feel it.
That moment we said “just a minute” while scrolling.
The phone call that cut the bedtime story short.
The glance they hoped for… that never came.
This post isn’t about guilt, it’s about awareness.
Because our presence means more than we think.
What do our children see when they look at us?
Let’s choose connection to them and not our phones.
Let’s be more aware, more present.
They’re not asking for everything. Just for us.

Parenting isn’t always easy.
It’s not about being perfect, it’s about being open. Reflecting. Repairing. Learning.

Our children only have us.
They look to us to understand the world and to feel safe in it.

If something isn’t working, we have the power to lead the change.
And if you’re struggling, that doesn’t make you a bad parent.
It makes you human.

What matters most is owning it and reaching out.
Support is out there.
Start with organisations like FamilyLives or Action for Children because asking for help is one of the bravest things you can do for yourself, and for your child.

Because change doesn’t start with them. It starts with us.

In safeguarding, clarity isn’t a luxury, it’s a responsibility.
That’s why we created the MAAPP LinkIndex, a portable, practical safeguarding toolkit already in use nationally by professionals across education, health, policing, social care, early help, and more.
From mental health and domestic abuse to ACEs, crime and prevention, housing, addiction, internet safety, education, family support and much more, you get trusted links, credible guidance, and immediate access to resources that matter, to support learning and strengthen working together.

This isn’t just a resource.
It’s a shift in how we work, learn, and support others.
It’s about making every contact count.
Planning purposeful intervention- not guess work
It’s about leading in your own learning.
And it’s about empowering the people who empower others.

Scan. Share. Empower. It's that simple!
It’s not just a slogan.
It’s a mindset.
We’re proud to be used nationally and committed to adding value.
Join the growing number of professionals who refuse to settle for ‘good enough’.
The families we support deserve better.
And the system needs tools that actually work.
Let’s move forward together.

STOMP-Stop The Over-Medication of People with a learning disability, autism, or both. This not just a health issue, it’s a safeguarding one.

Too often, powerful medication is used to manage behaviour in people with a learning disability or autism.
But behind that behaviour could be pain, fear, trauma, unmet need or simply a lack of voice.
That’s why STOMP matters across all disciplines.
It’s not just for doctors.
It’s for:
* Social workers
* Support workers
* Teachers & SENCOs
* Police
* Advocates
* Housing teams
* Family members
* Carers
Because we all have a role in noticing when medication might be masking distress.
STOMP reminds us to ask:
Is this prescription appropriate?
Are there alternatives?
Is the person being heard?
Have we explored the “why” beneath the behaviour?

If we don’t ask these questions, we risk enabling harm, even unintentionally.
Let’s not assume someone else will pick it up.
Let’s stay curious. Let’s work together.
Because safeguarding is everybody’s responsibility.
STOMP is about dignity, rights, and getting it right.

Why awareness (and tools like LinkIndex) are vital
Hidden nature: Cuckooing is “hidden harm” that only comes to light through active intervention or frontline reporting.
Until now, offences prosecuted under broader laws didn't reflect the specific harm to the home and the person’s vulnerability .

Practitioners such as the police, social workers, housing officers, youth workers need practical, accessible tools like LinkIndex to:
* Recognise the signs quickly,
* Access the right guidance,
* Connect families with appropriate services,
* Trigger timely supported multi-agency responses.

We focus so much on adult domestic abuse and rightly so.
But ask yourself this:
* Who’s talking about teenagers in abusive relationships?
* Who’s asking them if they feel safe with their partner?
* Supporting their learning?

They aren't rare cases.
They're everyday experiences, hidden behind school gates, in homes, social media posts, and missed appointments.

Even when relationship education is offered, only half of teens say it teaches them about consent.
So let me ask you:
* Do you know the signs?
* Are you asking the right questions?
* Would the young people you support know what a safe relationship even looks like?
This is why we need more professional curiosity, better tools like the LinkIndex, and honest conversations across services.

Teen relationship abuse is real.

Check out the research I accessed and have referred to in this post: Resources shared in comments below.

#LinkIndex #Families #Resources www.qrcoderesources.co.uk

Having worked within the Voluntary and Statutory sectors for over twenty five years, there has never been a system or tool identified were all professionals supporting families can access both local and National websites/resources accessible to both professionals and families..

Accessing resources via QR codes allows for the ease off accessing and sharing resources. Each QR code will link you directly to the targeted site.

Resources are integral to the efficiency of our roles, and during times of austerity, it is essential to be prepared, well equipped and informed in order to best support the individuals and families we engage with. Increased pressure from workload capacity, means that finding time to identify targeted resources can often be a difficult task. The innovative MAAPP QR Code Resource Key Ring is non intrusive, accessible and can easily be attached to your lanyard.

To use the key ring simply scan the QR code with your mobile (Iphone) device camera and gain immediate access to targeted resources. Or QR code scanners are accessible on all smart phone devices by downloading a free qrcode reader/scanner app. This takes seconds and is completely safe and FREE. Sharing the same vision to develop partnerships across all agencies, MAAPP has partnered with NHS Safeguarding to deliver instant access to a wide range of helpful resources.
