Cooking food is an art that incorporates the consideration of Ying and Yang elements - in both the choice of ingredients, as well as the cooking methods. In fact, it is so ingrained into our minds that whenever we look at a restaurant menu, we almost automatically consider how each dish is likely to affect our current Ying and Yang levels. For example, we'd often avoid fried, baked, roasted foods, if we are experiencing symptoms of Heat, i.e. pimples, sore throat etc..

University College London Professor Vivienne Lo's presentation titled ‘Medicine on the Silk Roads’.

This presentation will summarise 25 years of research and publication on the theme of medicine on the so-called Silk Roads. It will analyse Dunhuang in its critical role as a centre of the transmission of medical ideas in the medieval world. Using the rich resources of visual and textual materials discovered there, Professor Lo will consider how the Buddhist centre facilitated matters of secular exchange: in translation and adaptation of knowledge and practices such as medical images, acupuncture and moxibustion, and concepts of circulation as they travelled back and forward between China, India, and Central Asia.

Rao Jie, Calligraphy in Cursive Script

The ancient Chinese calligraphic scroll by Rao Jie contains an inscription by Emperor Qianlong and his imperial seal.
