What are the top treatment options for irregular heartbeats? 🤔

Dr Ahsan shares that we need to assess your stroke risk and may prescribe medications to control your heart rate and rhythm.

He also discusses the ablation procedure, which involves intentionally creating small scars to prevent abnormal heart rhythms.

Other procedures you may need with an arrhythmia include cardioversion and inserting a pacemaker or an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD).

Do you know your risk of arrhythmia (an abnormal heart rhythm)? ⚠️

Your arrhythmia risk increases as you age. Certain conditions increase your risk further.

These include:
💙 Thyroid disease
💙 High blood pressure
💙 Iron deficiency anaemia
💙 An electrolyte imbalance
💙 Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA)

You can also trigger an abnormal rhythm with caffeine, alcohol, viral illnesses, and some over-the-counter and prescribed medications.

It can take 6-10 weeks to recover fully from an ablation. However, you should be able to return to work much sooner than that.

Watch our video to learn how much time you may need to take off work. 👀

If you've had an ablation, share your journey and how long it took you to recover in the comments of our post!

We want all of our patients to understand each aspect of the procedure before we perform any treatment. If you have any questions, our specialists will take the time to answer in a way that you understand.
