🥒🍫 Pregnancy cravings: totally normal… but sometimes very random!
One minute you’re fine, the next you need ice cream, salty crisps, or a very specific combination of foods that’s never appealed to you before. Sound familiar?
Pregnancy cravings are incredibly common, and according to Smart Cells, they can be linked to hormonal changes, as well as shifts in your taste and sense of smell. Every pregnancy is different — so there’s no “right” or “wrong” craving!
Cravings can begin as early as week 5, often become stronger during the second trimester, and usually start to settle down as you head into the third trimester. 💛
✨ Top tips for managing cravings:
• Choose a healthier alternative where possible (like fruit or dark chocolate)
• Keep hydrated — thirst can sometimes feel like hunger
• Prioritise rest and gentle movement to reduce stress-related cravings
• Craving non-food items like chalk, soap or ice? Speak to your midwife, as it may be linked to a deficiency
Pregnancy is full of surprises — cravings are just one of them! 🤰✨
