Today I am 6 years clean and sober and free of addiction 🙌🥳🧡 I think back to those years when I believed that drink and drugs were the only way I could have fun and express myself. I had an image of sobriety as being boring and pathetic, a way that only “square” people (yeah I’m that generation) would live. I actively looked down on joggers as they went on their morning run, laughing at their idea of “fun” and ways of getting their kicks… sure that they were missing out on the ride of their lives… the only sport worth doing… drugs and alcohol were my sport and I thought I was an Olympic athlete in them!
Now (thankfully!), fitness is a huge part of my recovery journey and it’s something I prioritise in order to keep me on the right track. As someone with a complex history, there are certain things that are essential to keeping my nervous system regulated and exercise, healthy food and surrounding myself with positive people and communities are the cornerstone for everything else in my life. When I focus on my health, everything else falls into alignment. If you’re struggling with addiction or unmanageable behaviours and emotions, just know that there’s is a way to freedom… and it’s more fun and exiting than you can ever imagine!!
Congrats to all those on the path, wherever you are in your sober journey, and to anyone struggling and wondering if you can do it… you’ve got this, and you’re not alone 😉🧡
