And suddenly they called my name. I was next.
So I stepped up to the line, you know, and I looked again. I didn't see the bottom line. I said, let's see what happens.
And the woman said, read the third line from the bottom. Third line, no problem. She said, okay, next.
And I said, but I didn't read the bottom line. She said, no, but you read the line for normal vision. Third line from the bottom is normal vision.
So I realized some things, like when they're testing your vision, they don't ask you how sharply you see the letters. They ask, can you read it? And if you read it and it's blurry, it's okay. Right? It means you can see at whatever distance they consider arbitrarily to be normal.
I don't know how you say it, 10 out of 10, or how do you, 20-20. Okay, that's the way it is in the States too. The other countries on the continent, you know, they have a whole different thing.
So 20-20 vision means you're able to read a certain size letter at a certain distance. You're able to make out what it is, and that's all they care about. But when you go to get your glasses, you know, there are a lot of optometrists who are measuring, who are fitting you for glasses that correct you better than normal.
They will continue correcting your vision until you see as sharply as you can see. And you think, well, that's a good thing. But what it says to me is if someone walked into this place with normal vision and sat down in front of this machine and they succeeded in finding lenses that made the picture sharper, this person would walk out with the idea they need glasses to see, even though they have normal vision.
So what I recognized, having been measured as having normal vision and not seeing clearly, wow, that means people who have normal vision don't see clearly. Because I've got normal vision and it's like that for me. And some days I saw more clearly and some days I saw less clearly.
Wow, that means people with normal vision don't see clearly all the time. Because I've got normal vision, they told me, and I don't see clearly all the time. I wasn't too sure about this thing.
Well, I mean, after all, you know, they're civil servants, they're not really professionals. But I had an interesting situation. I was still terminally ill and I worked for a consulting firm.
And when they found out I was terminally ill, they fired me. Because, well, they couldn't depend on me for any long-term projects. I might start a project and die and then they'd have to do something else.
