Cardio is all the rage these days.
Park Run every Saturday morning.
Marathon training groups.
Hyrox did a 5 day event in Dub last week!
Everyone's suddenly a runner.
And look, there's nothing wrong with running if you enjoy it.
But if your main goal is fat loss?
It's probably not your best option.
Here's what happens with cardio-only approaches:
You burn calories during the session (maybe 400-800).
But your body adapts quickly and becomes more efficient.
So you burn fewer calories doing the same workout over time.
You lose muscle mass along with fat.
Which slows your metabolism further.
You end up "skinny fat"...
Lighter but still soft and undefined.
And you have to keep doing more and more cardio just to maintain results.
Strength training works completely differently.
You build muscle, which increases your resting metabolic rate.
Your body burns more calories all day, every day.
Not just during the workout, but while you're sitting at your desk, watching TV, or sleeping.
You lose fat while maintaining (or building) muscle.
You end up lean and defined, not just smaller.
And the results are sustainable without endless hours of exercise.
Plus, muscle is what gives you shape and definition.
It's what makes you look good in clothes.
It's what makes you look athletic instead of just thin.
Cardio makes you a smaller version of your current shape.
Strength training actually changes your shape.
That's the difference.
