Feeling tight?
‘Tight' muscles that are not properly managed could lead to potential muscle strains. A muscle strain happens when we place a load through the tissue at a force and length that it wasn't ready for, therefore we end up tearing the muscle fibers. Incorporate sports massage into your program. Avoid strains. Correct muscle imbalances and return to normal movement patterns. Smash your goals and get the most out of your training.

The mid back needs to be addressed when dealing with shoulder pain because of how the shoulder blades and mid back work together for shoulder movement.

The shoulder blades perform upward rotation on the midback region when lifting our arms overhead and out to the side. Also, our midback has to be able to have a healthy range of extension to be able to assist with getting those arms overhead. If you’re experiencing any pain in these areas deep tissue massage is used to increase the mobility in your mid back which aids in relieving the pain you may be experiencing in your shoulders.

Deep tightness in the IT band? Painful, sharp or dull sensation at the outside of the knee?

It could be a symptom of iliotibial band (IT band) syndrome. It’s an injury I often see and it’s caused by activities where you bend your knee repeatedly. Deep tissue massage works by helping release the hip muscles, thereby creating relief in the ITB itself! The bordering Hamstrings and Quads can be released as well allowing the ITB to move freely, enabling you to continue to train at your best without being in pain.

Do you ever feel discomfort or pain?

Don't just push on through or ignore it, stop and assess it.

Early intervention prevents longer term issues.

When working at a desk we are often held in the same position for long periods of time. When the body is in a sustained posture the muscles will adapt. I’ve treated numerous clients suffering migraines, tight upper back and traps, neck pain and tight shoulders directly linked to bad posture while sitting at a computer at work. I use deep tissue manual therapy to release these chronically tight muscles and give strengthening exercises to help retain the muscles that have weakened. This treatment has been hugely successful not only by reducing the symptoms but also helping stop recurrences of pain.

Dealing with sciatica?
Nerves require room to move and healthy blood flow. You may feel more of your sciatica-related symptoms in your hip and glute region. Working on mobility through the lower back will help with pain management as the sciatic nerve originates from the lower lumbar spine and the sacral region. It’s always important to address the issue at the root of the problem.
