*Heading outdoors for the bank holiday weekend?

Ticks can carry bacteria that causes Lyme disease.

It’s important to check for ticks on your clothes or skin, and safely remove them as soon as possible, just in case.

To remove a tick safely:

- *Use fine-tipped tweezers* or a tick-removal tool
- *Grasp the tick as close to the skin as possible*
- *Pull upwards slowly. Do NOT twist or jerk, squeeze or crush it* – this can cause the tick to break or release harmful fluids
- *Dispose of the tick safely.* Squash it in a tissue (so no fluid touches your skin), then flush or bin the tissue
- *Clean the bite* with antiseptic or soap and water
