Last Thursday was the first of my Therapeutic Coaches Community Group.

The range of issues we explored in just 1 hour was tremendous and caused us all to reflect about how valuable the space was.

This is a flavour of our discussion:

Professional identity.

How we articulate what we do and how it helps clients.

The difference in ethics across the membership bodies.

The benefits, or not, of accreditation.

Ethical marketing.

Building a philosophy for practice.

Training, CPD and the benefits of supervision.

…and more I didn’t make a note of.

I've had an amazing response to my Autumn supervision groups and am now taking expressions of interest for the next two groups starting in 2026.

If you've never experienced small group supervision and are curious about what it can add to your practice you have 3 options for getting in touch:

A big thank you to those who attended the Coaching Division event this morning.

It was great to be among like-minded souls exploring the supervisory and training challenges for those of us integrating coaching and psychotherapy.

It starts with your underpinning philosophy and boundaried by safe and ethical practice.

If asked why you integrate therapy or counselling with coaching can you describe why you choose this approach??

In my own blended practice, I use different approaches for 2 reasons:

Firstly, because they are of benefit for a particular client.

Secondly, because they align with my way of working.

This means I am open and responsive to my clients needs, ensuring I understand what a client wants to achieve and able to respond appropriately.

I also understand my philosophy and the approaches which are most suitable for me and my way of working.

I use the analogy of a mindful chef. Bringing my knowledge and skills together in a measured way for the client I’m working with. A unique approach for each client but always blended with care and attention.

It makes working as a Therapeutic Coach so much easier when you have clarity about your own approach and philosophy.

No more emulating others, just yourself and your client doing what you both do best.

I don't always get it right!

When I'm talking about supervision and mentoring for Coaches who want to bring therapeutic aspects into their work I can get overly excited.

At these times my exuberance sometimes takes over and I can become a bit interrupty (that is now a word), inward focussed and slightly switched off to whether those around me are still engaged or have wandered off for a coffee and a snack.

Whether this is my ND playing out I don't know...it's the way I am and I can't change it, nor do I want to. It's this very energy which moves me to do the work I do.

I am aware that this week I left someone feeling unheard as my enthusiasm took over.

Knowing I impacted someone in this way, I did something which, a few years ago, would have filled me with dread. I contacted them, apologised if I forgot they existed for a period of time and offered them my undivided attention if they wanted to offer me any feedback. They did and it was of great value for me.

I have a choice about how I leave people feeling and I can go back and remedy the impact of my inner puppy.

I've spoken with a lot of coaches over the summer and, for those in private practice, there are still two dominant issues:

- finding clients to work with who are the right fit for your offering
- isolation in the work

Supervision can help with both of these issues.

The right clients come when you're clear about your offering and your philosophy for practice. This is an ideal subject for supervision.

Building a relationship with a supervisor helps with the isolation and even more so when there is a the option of small closed group supervision where you build a deeper relationship with fellow coaches.

A group is also a brilliant way of gaining clarity about the right clients and generating cross-referrals through trust and collaboration.

Coaches Supervision group update

There are no more spaces available for my Coaches Supervision group starting this Friday 12th.

I still have one space left on my Monday afternoon group starting on October 6th and have a small waiting list for coaches who are interested in a group on a Wednesday or Thursday. This group is likely to start in the new year.

If you've been looking at any of my posts over the summer and are still wondering whether a small closed supervision group is for you then do reach out.

I love a good chat and there is no pressure to join.

Some of my supervisees waited over a year before deciding to work with me and I respect the time they needed. Deciding who to work with as a supervisor is worthy of taking your time over.

I am loving the conversations I'm having with coaches about how they can bring more therapeutic concepts to their work in a way which is ethical and safe.

The thoughtful consideration about boundaries, client safety and competence are so welcome in the discussions.

If you're considering blending therapeutic approaches with your coaching practice, there can be real benefits for your clients in this integration. There are also some challenges and risks of working beyond your competence.

Group Supervision for Coaches

I have one space left on my Friday Supervision group starting on the 12th September.

This is an opportunity to share, learn, develop and grow with a small group of coaches all focussed on supporting each other in their work. The 3 coaches who have already signed up are all awesome so you'll be in very good company.

My supervision groups are never larger than 4 members and are closed for a duration of 6 months. This means you build a closer relationship with each other and understand the work in more depth. This is essential for any group to flourish.

From intuition to integration

Turning belief into practice

Many coaches and therapists feel instinctively that there’s value in working in a more integrated way but aren’t always sure how to do it safely or ethically.

One participant on the recent Blended Approach Mentoring Programme said:
