I had a patient in for microsuction complaining of vertigo and trouble driving. Upon removal of impacted wax their symptoms were greatly improved but still present. They had healthy middle ear function. I suspected it may be BPPV due to having short periods of vertigo. I referred her to a doctor and she is now receiving the appropriate treatment for her condition and seeing some improvement already.

Impacted wax can exacerbate inner ear conditions or other balance conditions.

"While it's long been known that ears (and noses) appear larger as we age, research in recent years has clarified that this is not due to true growth but is instead the result of gravity and cartilage degradation. Over time, the collagen and elastin in ear cartilage weaken, causing ears to elongate and sag slightly. The effect is subtle but noticeable in older adults."

A patient came in with symptoms of intermittent crackling sounds in one ear. Upon inspection I discovered impacted ear wax (resembling small pebbles!). It turned out that both ears were blocked and he felt relief from having both ears cleared of impacted wax!

Another patient came in for a routine check-up, and we discovered a significant buildup of wax. He was very pleased with the results, and I had to 'whisper' afterwards!👂
