It’s not everyday you receive a personal review from a visiting professional, but this week not one, but two of our nurses received one.
The first was for Nurse Amy on our Picasso unit which we posted earlier, the second is for Katie Pitt Lead Nurse on Matisse both have been written by one of the Senior Enhanced Care Home Support Nurses.
Care Home Support is a triage service between care homes and the GP. They have Advanced Nurse Practitioners that come into homes every week. We also send referrals to them for any advice/support and required treatment. They are able to request and also prescribe treatment and link with GP
This review was emailed to our home management team from one of the Senior Enhanced Nurse Practitioners that has been coming into our home for many years now on a Friday. She wrote…..
‘Dear Melissa and Kerry,
I would like to share some positive feedback back with you regarding one of your nurses.
In my capacity as a Nurse Practitioner within the Enhanced Care Home Support Team, I attend the care home on a weekly basis and have worked closely with Katie Pitt since she recently qualified and assumed the role of Lead Nurse on the Matisse Unit. During this time, Katie has consistently demonstrated a level of professionalism, clinical capability, and leadership that is highly commendable for a newly qualified practitioner.
Katie exhibits strong organisational skills and approaches her leadership responsibilities with maturity, confidence, and a clear commitment to maintaining high standards of care within the unit. She is proactive in seeking out learning opportunities to expand her nursing knowledge and skill set, while also demonstrating an appropriate awareness of her professional limitations. This balanced approach reflects both safe practice and sound clinical judgement.
Her communication skills are exemplary. Katie engages sensitively and effectively with residents, families, colleagues, and the wider multidisciplinary team. She consistently fosters positive working relationships and contributes meaningfully to collaborative decision‑making and care planning.
A recent example of her capability has been her management of an exceptionally complex wound on the unit. Katie independently took the lead in coordinating and delivering the wound care plan, seeking guidance appropriately from myself and the wider team when necessary. Her clinical assessment, decision‑making, and diligent monitoring have resulted in remarkable improvement for a resident who is extremely frail and clinically complex. This outcome is a direct reflection of Katie’s competence, attention to detail, and commitment to delivering high‑quality, person‑centred care.
Katie’s performance to date demonstrates clear potential for ongoing professional growth. She is an asset to the Matisse Unit, and her contribution is already having a positive impact on the residents and the wider care team. ‘
When Jeanne Davies, Managing Director, heard about both Katie and Amy she asked the home management team to give gifts in recognition of their exemplary performance.
Katie is seen here receiving her gifts from Home Manager, Melissa Rosser and Deputy Manager, Kerry Cotterill.
Well done Katie, we’re extremely proud of the exemplary team member that you are.
