The February edition of L&M Healthcare’s news journal, ‘The Inside Story,’ is out next week.

It’s love themed and full of all the amazing Valentine’s celebrations we had. It also highlights some amazing achievements, talents, random acts of kindness, the success of our music therapy Pilot Test at Cherry Tree House and we also share how we ate our pancakes on Pancake Day, plus some highly innovative ways in which we celebrated Chinese New Year.

What’s not to love?!

It will be available to download from our website, in reception and can be emailed to you on request.

It’s not everyday you receive a personal review from a visiting professional, but this week two of our nurses received one.

The first was for Nurse Amy on our Picasso unit. It is written by one of the Senior Enhanced Care Home Support Nurses.

Care Home Support is a triage service between care homes and the GP. They have Advanced Nurse Practitioners that come into homes every week. We also send referrals to them for any advice/support and required treatment. They are able to request and also prescribe treatment and link with GP

This review emailed to our home management team from one of the Advanced Nurse Practitioners that has been coming into our home for many years now on a Friday. She wrote…..

‘Good Afternoon,

I just wanted to inform you of some positive feedback for your care home.

Amy, the nurse covering the Picasso and Mosaic units, has demonstrated an exceptional standard of leadership and clinical professionalism. The residents on these units present with highly complex needs and, at times, very challenging behaviours. Despite this, Amy consistently manages situations with confidence, skill, and composure.

Her depth of clinical knowledge, combined with effective communication and clear leadership, has had a noticeably positive impact on both residents and their families. She has built strong, therapeutic relationships and consistently demonstrates a high level of empathy in her interactions, contributing significantly to improved resident experience and wellbeing.

Staff working alongside her report feeling well supported, and it is evident that her leadership style fosters a safe, cohesive, and confident team environment.

A recent example of her outstanding practice includes liaising with specialist services to address a complex catheter issue for a resident. Through her proactive involvement and clinical decision‑making, the resident is now managing urine retention through intermittent catheterisation. This intervention has reduced both trauma and infection risk, significantly improving the resident’s quality of care.

Amy’s commitment, compassion, and professionalism are exemplary, and she is a highly valued asset to the units she supports.’

When Jeanne Davies, Managing Director of L&M Healthcare heard about this, she immediately asked the management team at Gainsborough House to ensure that Amy received some gifts in recognition of her exemplary work.

Amy is seen here receiving the gifts from Deputy Manager, Kerry Cotterill. Well done Amy, what an example you have set. We are truly proud of you.

It’s not everyday you receive a personal review from a visiting professional, but this week not one, but two of our nurses received one.

The first was for Nurse Amy on our Picasso unit which we posted earlier, the second is for Katie Pitt Lead Nurse on Matisse both have been written by one of the Senior Enhanced Care Home Support Nurses.

This review was emailed to our home management team from one of the Senior Enhanced Nurse Practitioners that has been coming into our home for many years now on a Friday. She wrote…..

‘Dear Melissa and Kerry,

I would like to share some positive feedback back with you regarding one of your nurses.
In my capacity as a Nurse Practitioner within the Enhanced Care Home Support Team, I attend the care home on a weekly basis and have worked closely with Katie Pitt since she recently qualified and assumed the role of Lead Nurse on the Matisse Unit. During this time, Katie has consistently demonstrated a level of professionalism, clinical capability, and leadership that is highly commendable for a newly qualified practitioner.

Katie exhibits strong organisational skills and approaches her leadership responsibilities with maturity, confidence, and a clear commitment to maintaining high standards of care within the unit. She is proactive in seeking out learning opportunities to expand her nursing knowledge and skill set, while also demonstrating an appropriate awareness of her professional limitations. This balanced approach reflects both safe practice and sound clinical judgement.

Her communication skills are exemplary. Katie engages sensitively and effectively with residents, families, colleagues, and the wider multidisciplinary team. She consistently fosters positive working relationships and contributes meaningfully to collaborative decision‑making and care planning.
A recent example of her capability has been her management of an exceptionally complex wound on the unit. Katie independently took the lead in coordinating and delivering the wound care plan, seeking guidance appropriately from myself and the wider team when necessary. Her clinical assessment, decision‑making, and diligent monitoring have resulted in remarkable improvement for a resident who is extremely frail and clinically complex. This outcome is a direct reflection of Katie’s competence, attention to detail, and commitment to delivering high‑quality, person‑centred care.

Katie’s performance to date demonstrates clear potential for ongoing professional growth. She is an asset to the Matisse Unit, and her contribution is already having a positive impact on the residents and the wider care team. ‘

When Jeanne Davies, Managing Director, heard about both Katie and Amy she asked the home management team to give gifts in recognition of their exemplary performance.

Katie is seen here receiving her gifts from Home Manager, Melissa Rosser and Deputy Manager, Kerry Cotterill.

Well done Katie, we’re extremely proud of the exemplary team member that you are.
