Female athletes are more prone to develop a complicated relationship with food due to the unrealistic expectations of social media, society or peer pressure.

Together with Susie Dear former GB rower we delve into nutrition for female rowers, low energy availability (LEA) & relative energy deficiency in sports (RED-S), training volume and menstrual cycle disturbances.

We highlight the need to equip female athletes with various tools that would help with an early detection of undereating, while preventing them from developing serious health issues.

We are thrilled to have Susie Dear joining Gosia to deliver the Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-s) nutritional course for female rowers.

Here is what she said:

“Really excited to collaborate with the co-founder of Light Blue Clinic, Gosia, on an important project close to my heart. My rowing career spanned a decade, and during that time, I struggled with the challenges of RED-s. I'm now proud to share my personal experience of RED-s alongside Gosia's expertise in female athlete health. Together, we've developed an online course to help athletes, parents, and coaches better understand RED-s and LEA (Low Energy Availability), along with practical ways to manage and prevent them.

This is the resource I wish I had years ago and we hope it will have a positive impact for athletes- more information coming!”

Welcome on board Susie!

At Light Blue Clinic we have been developing a rowing specific online course that would help female athletes to manage, diagnose and seek help with eating disorders, osteoporosis and menstrual cycle problems.

We partnered with Susie Dear a former GBR rower to better understand an athlete’s perspective. Her story began back in 2012 at Oxford Brookes University, where she first learnt to row. Over the next 10 years, Susie went on to row with Sydney Rowing Club, Leander Club, and ultimately trained and raced with the British Rowing Team.

This course has been designed for parents, coaches and athletes who are serious about finding out more about preventative measurements or solutions to aid with an early detection of low energy availability (LEA) & relative deficiency in sport (RED-S).

It will be available soon on our website to be purchased for individuals and teams.

Yesterday, Girton Glebe Primary school welcomed Cambridge University Boat Club men's head coach Rob Baker and president Luca Ferraro.

They talked about what it means to be a Cambridge University rower, training regime and how it feels to beat Oxford in the annual clash between both universities.

Towards the end of the presentation, students had a chance to use an ergometer and were coached by Milosz 🏋️‍♂️

Race ready, strong, powerful and injury free rowers!!! These athletes (men side) occupy Milosz's and Gosia's heads for about 7 months prior to The Boat Race. The puzzles fit and we won yet again, no one needs to know about the ups and downs during the process 👏 Congratulations 🚣‍♀️🏋️‍♂️ Photo credit ->

Low energy availability (LEA) and relative energy deficiency in sport (RED-S) have always been present in athletic community.

Female athletes are more prone to develop a complicated relationship with food due to the unrealistic expectations of social media, society or peer pressure. Therefore, it is essential to equip athletes with various tools that would help with early detection of undereating and preventing further health complications.

In the build-up to The Boat Race we have been developing a rowing specific course that would help female athletes to manage, diagnose and seek help with eating disorders, osteoporosis and menstrual cycle problems.

More info soon. For now please enjoy the bloopers 😃 Super important kudos to who had to patiently listen to me all over again.
