Multi-Medix - Ultrasound QA Specialists

Multi-Medix - Ultrasound QA Specialists Multi-Medix are specialists in Ultrasound Quality Assurance

24/02/2026

Today marks exactly four months until the Conference, and we’re pleased to be counting down to an event that continues to support innovation and best practice in clinical engineering.
You’ll be able to meet the Multi-Mode team on our distributor Group’s stand, where we’ll be demonstrating how Multi-Mode supports more robust and objective ultrasound QA — and gives EBME teams new insight into system performance and fault behaviour.
We look forward to connecting with clinical engineers and healthcare technology professionals to discuss ultrasound QA challenges and share developments from our work in this area.

Quality assurance is fundamental to high-quality ultrasound practice — and this is underscored in the Society and College of Radiographers (SCoR) and British Medical Ultrasound Society (BMUS) Guidelines for Professional Ultrasound Practice.

These joint guidelines provide essential professional standards for governance, equipment performance and QA testing within ultrasound departments, offering a valuable reference for clinicians.

In services, quality assurance is not simply a routine task — it’s a critical pillar of safe and effective patient care. At Multi-Medix Ltd, we emphasise structured QA protocols that align with recognised standards and help reduce diagnostic uncertainty in clinical practice. Proactive QA supports consistent image quality, enhances equipment longevity and fosters confidence across clinical teams.

Multi-Mode is designed to expose system faults that sit beyond the limits of conventional QA testing. By displaying QA results in ways that traditional testing methods cannot, it provides clinical engineering teams with new insight into system stability, consistency and fault development over time.

For EBME teams, this means greater confidence in fault identification, improved understanding of emerging issues, and more robust evidence to support maintenance, escalation and governance decisions. Integrated within QA Everyday™, Multi-Mode supports a more objective and repeatable approach to routine ultrasound quality assurance.

One of the biggest risks in ultrasound QA isn’t faulty equipment. It’s over-reliance on one individual/department. Guidance from BMUS, IPEM and international bodies assumes QA is:
• Shared
• Repeatable
• Sustainable across teams
Multi-Mode™ is designed to solve this problem.

Multi-Mode supports different users, different needs, and different levels of expertise — all within one platform:
• TEST-Mode™
A simple, first-line fault finder for uniformity and dropout — ideal for routine checks by clinical users.
• QA-Mode™
Automated QA with digital reports and analytics, supporting structured QA programmes and compliance.
• SERVICE-Mode™
Tools that support engineers delivering routine preventative maintenance and service oversight.

One system.
Multiple users.
Clear, consistent evidence of ultrasound equipment performance.

Ultrasound QA is part of everyday clinical practice — but the way we manage it is changing. Teams need QA systems that fit real workflows, not extra layers of admin.
After helping to implement QA in busy clinical setting over the last 10 years, we knew we had to come up with a QA testing tool that enabled
• Less paperwork
• Better visibility
• Smarter, shared systems
That’s the gap Multi-Mode™ has filled.
Multi-Mode is designed to help teams:
• Capture QA activity quickly and consistently
• Review trends across systems and transducers over time
• Demonstrate alignment with professional guidance from BMUS, IPEM and international bodies

Guidance tells us what good QA looks like. The challenge is making it:
- Repeatable
- A shared activity across staff groups
- Easy to evidence
so it becomes an embedded activity. That’s exactly what our QA Everyday™ is designed to support: Our friendly staff with come to your site and help you step up your QA Programme – from baselining systems to annual QA inspection. And now with Multi-Mode, QA becomes even faster and easier.

QA Everyday™ is a customisable and comprehensive Ultrasound Quality Assurance programme specifically designed to meet the unique requirements of hospitals, clinics, and ultrasound departments. Whether you’re working in a busy hospital or a specialized clinic, QA Everyday™ offers a tailored solution that ensures your ultrasound systems perform optimally, comply with industry standards, and provide the highest level of safety and accuracy for your patients. Ultrasound QA is also an infection control issue. Probe condition affects more than image quality.
Even minor damage to lenses or cables can:
• Compromise cleaning
• Increase cross-contamination risk
• Go unnoticed without inspection
That’s why infection control guidance and ultrasound QA guidance go hand-in-hand.
Routine inspection and staff awareness — both core QA elements — protect patients and staff.

If QA isn’t documented, did it really happen?
From a governance perspective, QA isn’t just technical. In adverse incidents, one question comes up repeatedly:
Can you demonstrate that the equipment was properly checked and managed?
Documented QA:
• Supports compliance with BMUS, SCoR, IPEM, AIUM and EFSUMB
• Protects staff and organisations
• Shows faults were identified and managed
This is where Multi-Mode adds value — helping teams keep QA records clear, accessible, and audit-ready without adding admin burden.

When probes were assessed through structured QA programmes, the findings are often surprising:
• Around 1 in 3 probes show a fault
• Around 1 in 8 are not fit for clinical purpose
Yet, most were still in use because deterioration can be easy to miss without ultrasound QA checks.
Our CPD accredited Probe Care Essentials training course is a great way to start a QA Programme or refresh your knowledge:
• Duration: 45-60 minutes
• Location: On-site at your department—training tailored to your facility’s needs.
• Who Should Attend: Sonographers, Radiographers, Imaging Assistants, and other healthcare professionals involved in ultrasound imaging.
• Compliant with Industry Standards: CPD accredited, our training aligns with best practices outlined by the British Medical Ultrasound Society (BMUS) and the Multi-Medix Diagnostic Quality Assurance Manual
