Feeling a bit emotional at the moment, uncertain, overwhelmed? In class this week our meditation will be taking inspiration from nature to help us feel grounded, strong and empowered. It can be helpful when we're experiencing challenges or feel a bit off centre.

Part 2 where I compare working as an Image Consultant and helping declutter wardrobes to working as a Mindfulness Teacher and helping to declutter the mind.

** Another common theme that contributes to a cluttered wardrobe is where we keep things in our wardrobe that no longer suit our lifestyle. Maybe you've changed jobs and no longer need to be suited and booted. It can be hard to let go of suits, especially if they were expensive, but keeping them just creates confusion and upset. Similarly, churning back over past events, wishing things were different, wishing you could change something you said (or didn't say), only serves to prolong your own suffering. **

Some things change and some things can't be changed. Learn to accept and let go of the things that don't have a place or don't serve you so you can enjoy the things that do.

I know this is easier said than done. Mindfulness is called a practice for a reason.

Did you know I used to be an Image Consultant? One of the ways I used to help women look and feel their very best was through wardrobe decluttering.

Decluttering the wardrobe and decluttering the mind share a lot of similarities and in this little series I'll share 4 similarities and what might help.

** When your wardrobe is SO full, you can't see what gems are lurking in the back and habitually choose the same outfits day in, day out. In the same way, an overwhelmed mind runs on autopilot, struggles to see what's really good in life and reverts to old habits even when they're uncomfortable. **

Take the time to really step back so you can see things more clearly. Doing this allows creativity to flow, offers choices you didn't realise you had and lets you choose what changes you want to make. And getting help means you can be a lot more objective.

"I took a walk in the woods and came out taller than the trees" - Henry David Thoreau

Finally paid a visit to Into the Outwoods Sculpture Trail and definitely came away refreshed and purposeful. It's still open until 31 July and highly recommended. The tree people are a lovely reminder that it's good to look up. Don't think I saw all 70 though!

And of course had yummy coffee and GF cake from Olivia's Coffee & Bakery - would have been rude not to!

Some paths in the woods are straight, uncomplicated and you can see the end, some are a bit more challenging but worth the effort and some basically take you round in circles but it's OK because there's lots to see on the way - bit like life really πŸ˜€

This month marks 5 years since I sat down to meditate for the first time and reading this book a little while after gave me so many lightbulb moments and was one of the things that inspired me to train as a mindfulness teacher. It's well worth a read - so simple and makes so much sense.

My daily practice has turned my life around in so many ways:

β€πŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈ I feel more chilled out, relaxed and easy going. Stuff is fun again πŸ˜ƒ
πŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈ I spend a lot less time tying myself up in knots over things that I can't control
πŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈ I can recognise the real truth versus the 'truth' that only exists in my head. Honestly, this is a game changer.
πŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈ I can let that other 'truth' go and focus on what matters
πŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈ I deal with stress more effectively
πŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈ Feelings of anxiety are less debilitating

I could go on and on because mindfulness helps me (and my family) in so many ways. It took me a while to reconcile how something so simple can be so powerful. In a world that's constantly changing, bigger, better, faster, more, it's liberating to do something that's about letting go of the overthinking, striving and confusion and to just enjoy the little things. It's a bit like having a clear out then getting great pleasure from what you've kept. And all from just sitting quietly for 15 minutes a day.
