Here's another fantastic birth story, that I've been given permission to share, from Samantha, a client with her first baby. Yes, you absolutely can have an amazing experience with your first baby. 🥰
"I had seen some friends post about hypnobirthing before even getting pregnant. I attended a workshop with my husband at 30 weeks pregnant and felt very calm and assured that my body was designed to birth my baby and that it could be a lovely experience. I practiced my affirmations, relaxation using 321 relax and long visualisation track throughout the rest of my pregnancy. I found visualising waves and the sea worked really well for me. I even used them during Braxton Hicks and one episode of false labour!
I woke up boxing day morning at 1.40am with some cramps but went back to bed. 5am they were more regular, every 15 mins so I lit candles, used my birthing ball and walked around lots while watching TV, using my relaxation breathing. By 830am they were more intense and regular so ran a bath and let husband know. I spent a couple of hours in the bath rocking side to side, imagining my cervix dilating and taking each contraction as it came.
I had a show and contractions were at least 3 in 10mins but not lasting longer than 40 seconds so hospital advised likely early labour, to take paracetomal and remain at home. Over the next hour I had longer more intense contractions but I remained in the bath rocking and breathing. We had my 40 week check at 1130am at hospital so husband was trying to get me ready for that but I felt like I needed a poo and was making an occasional deep noise during my contractions with some bleeding which I was aware happened in active labour when close to pushing but felt it was too soon for that as it had only been a few hours and the pain was still manageable.
I didn’t talk on the way or much when we arrived at the hospital, I just focused on each contraction breathing and counting backwards from 30 2-3 times. I got taken straight to the birth centre, my husband told them my birth plan- waterbirth with hypnobirthing and minimal intervention. They examined me and at 12.05 I was 9.5cm!
Waters broke while the bath was running and I was on my back pushing. I ended up staying on the bed in then end as foetal heart rate dropped. I used the short breaths down throughout the pushing stage and after a 15min 2nd stage of labour baby girl Maya was born at 12.45!! my husband cut the cord and we had skin to skin for over an hour. The power of the mind and body made it such a magical experience."
