It was a pleasure to present at the British Judo Association Inclusion Weekend, supporting coaches in their ongoing development through shared learning and knowledge exchange.

The session aligned closely with the launch of Deaflympics Project 2029, creating valuable opportunities for positive engagement, collaboration, and professional development.

A highlight was Deaflympian Nathan Young who shared his lived experience as a deaf athlete, offering powerful insight to British Judo coaches as they begin their journey with Project 2029. His contribution reinforced the importance of inclusive practice and athlete-centred development at every level.

England Deaf Rugby is proud to launch a new Under-18s Rugby Sevens initiative in 2026, designed to support and develop the next generation of England Deaf rugby players.

This programme is a vital step in strengthening both our men’s and women’s performance pathways, ensuring that young Deaf athletes are identified early, supported appropriately, and given meaningful opportunities to be part of the England Deaf Rugby community.

Athletes will be able to develop their rugby skills, build confidence, and showcase their potential within a structured, inclusive, and internationally aligned environment.

The initiative will introduce young players to the demands and standards of an international performance setup, helping them understand what it means to represent England Deaf Rugby while fostering a strong sense of belonging, identity, and ambition.

This programme also closely aligns with the continued growth of Deaf rugby on the global stage.

With the Deaf Rugby World Cup being contested at a 7s level this year in Tokyo, the initiative forms a critical part of our long-term vision to grow the future of England Deaf Rugby.

By developing and supporting young athletes now, we are creating a clear and sustainable pathway towards future Deaf World Cup and international 7s competitions.

Ultimately, this initiative mirrors the aims of England Deaf:

Opportunity, inclusion, and aspiration ensuring talented Deaf athletes can access the right environment to develop, thrive, and progress towards representing England on the world stage.
