This is one for the kids……

It’s never too early to talk to your children about posture and how to look after their back. So I asked my eldest to design a poster for our page to highlight some main points for children to be aware of!

The main points from my 8 year old…..
1. Don’t play computer games too much as you may slump.
2. If you feel like your back aches walk about and stretch
3. Keep your back in a straight position at all times
4. Make sure you stretch or warm up before you play sport, computer games or just exercising your body

I think he’s covered all the main points! I particularly like the picture of good and bad posture 😀

If you need any more advice please talk to your chiropractor at your next visit.

We hope you are all enjoying the holidays!

We all look forward to our holidays, but it's a time when we need to take a little more care of our backs. The BCA has given us some tips on travel and how to keep your back protected and feeling great during your travels.

Preparing to travel
Suitcase selection-if you can, buy the lightest case possible. Make sure it has wheels and remember to use them. If you can, push the case in front of you instead of pulling it, to avoid twisting.
Two cases are better than one, to distribute the weight more evenly.
Consciously lift your case-keeping it as close to your body as possible.
If possible, get a good night's sleep- travelling well rested reduces the risk of injury.

Driving
Poor posture can aggravate back issues. If you are driving adjust your seat to give you good support, keeping your seat at a slightly backwards angle. Make sure you relax at the wheel and allow the seat to support you.
Take regular breaks, have a stretch every 2 hours.
Wear loose clothing - this helps movement.

Flying
It's best to avoid alcohol as this causes dehydration which can lead to muscle pain.
If it's a long flight remember to do regular shoulder shrugs, buttock clenches, calf raises and foot circles.
Moving around the cabin whenever you can helps keep your muscles flexible.
At airports get moving as much as possible, avoiding travelators where you can.
At the baggage carousel lift luggage carefully- one helpful tip is to make sure that your luggage is easily identifiable.

On arrival
If you can, go for a walk. Travelling often involves a lot of sitting around.
Then time to relax and enjoy a well deserved break!
If you need any more advice or have back pain following your trip, feel free to contact us.

The beautiful weather has returned! If you’re going to be doing any gardening it’s important to warm up first with a few stretches. This will help to prepare the muscles which reduces the risk of injury.
During gardening move mindfully, good posture is important, so avoid hunching. Bend the knees rather than bending at the waist, focusing on safe lifting. Listen to your body and take regular breaks. Working with ergonomic long handled tools can help us to maintain a good safe posture.
Finally, once you’ve finished end with a few stretches. Then it’s time to relax with a cuppa and enjoy the results of your work!

What are we and how can we help you?

Chiropractors are qualified healthcare practitioners who can assess, diagnose and potentially help you with a range of conditions affecting muscles and joints. These include injuries, sciatica, and back and neck pain.

During your first appointment with us we take a case history. We will then examine you to learn more about your condition. This will allow us to decide whether chiropractic treatment is appropriate for you, and if so, what approach to use.

We may treat you using spinal and joint manipulation or other hands-on techniques including soft tissue work.

Our chiropractors may also offer advice on exercises plus lifestyle suggestions to help you manage your condition. This may include dietary and nutritional advice as well as strategies to cope with stress and discomfort.

If you would like any further information, please give us a call on 01509 219800 and one of our receptionists will be happy to help

It is officially Chiropractic Awareness Week 😀

It’s Chiropractic Awareness Week – and we’re celebrating 100 years of chiropractic care in the UK!

For a century, chiropractors have helped people feel better, move more, and live fuller lives. From relieving pain to restoring mobility, our profession has always been about supporting healthier, more active communities. And today, we’re more ready than ever to make a difference.

With NHS MSK waiting times reaching up to 24 weeks, we have the skills and capacity to treat an additional 200,000 patients a year – helping people recover faster and return to work sooner. The potential impact? An incredible £399 million in productivity gains annually – and that figure could reach £873 million by 2028.

As the UK’s largest body of regulated chiropractors, we’re proud of how far we’ve come – and even more excited for what’s ahead. This week is a celebration of our legacy, our leadership, and our future as a vital part of mainstream healthcare.

Here’s to 100 years of progress, and many more to come. Join us in celebrating by using and tagging us so we can amplify your message.
