Where did January and February go?
It’s March already and we are starting to see signs of spring! During the winter months the weather can put a lot of us off exercising. So as the better weather approaches why not try to start incorporating some movement into your day. Start off with some gentle stretches and make sure that you keep hydrated.
Here are a few ideas to get you started.
* Exercise snacking. Fit some movement in whilst waiting for the kettle to boil or brushing your teeth.
* Get out for a walk and enjoy our beautiful countryside.
* Join a class such as yoga or pilates.
* Sign up to an exercise challenge such as the NHS Couch to 5km. https://www.nhs.uk/better-health/get-active/get-running-with-couch-to-5k/ -2-5k-app
* Join in with a Park Run. These have sprung up all over the country. https://www.parkrun.org.uk/
* Speak to your chiropractor for more movement ideas.

If you are not a current patient and have some questions or if you have any musculoskeletal problems which might be stopping you from doing some exercise, then please give us a call on 01509 219800 ā˜ŗļø

Watch out for all those winter aches and pains over the festive season.

Here’s some tips and advice from us……..

1. Wrap up warm to avoid muscle spasm. Don’t hunch up.
2. Stay active. Don’t let the cold weather make you sedentary.
3. Plan ahead to avoid the stressful lead up to Christmas.
4. Make time to fit in your exercise routines
5. Have regular breaks during Christmas shopping, it’s tiring on your back.
6. Wrap all your presents at a table with a supportive chair. Not on the floor in a last minute rush.
7. Warm up before playing on computer games and watch your posture.
8. Stay Hydrated. Dehydration can worsen muscle stiffness.

Wishing you a relaxing, mobile and Merry Christmas and a happy, pain free New Year from all at Loughborough Chiropractic Clinic ā˜ŗļø

This is one for the kids……

It’s never too early to talk to your children about posture and how to look after their back. So I asked my eldest to design a poster for our page to highlight some main points for children to be aware of!

The main points from my 8 year old…..
1. Don’t play computer games too much as you may slump.
2. If you feel like your back aches walk about and stretch
3. Keep your back in a straight position at all times
4. Make sure you stretch or warm up before you play sport, computer games or just exercising your body

I think he’s covered all the main points! I particularly like the picture of good and bad posture šŸ˜€

If you need any more advice please talk to your chiropractor at your next visit.

We hope you are all enjoying the holidays!

We all look forward to our holidays, but it's a time when we need to take a little more care of our backs. The BCA has given us some tips on travel and how to keep your back protected and feeling great during your travels.

Preparing to travel
Suitcase selection-if you can, buy the lightest case possible. Make sure it has wheels and remember to use them. If you can, push the case in front of you instead of pulling it, to avoid twisting.
Two cases are better than one, to distribute the weight more evenly.
Consciously lift your case-keeping it as close to your body as possible.
If possible, get a good night's sleep- travelling well rested reduces the risk of injury.

Driving
Poor posture can aggravate back issues. If you are driving adjust your seat to give you good support, keeping your seat at a slightly backwards angle. Make sure you relax at the wheel and allow the seat to support you.
Take regular breaks, have a stretch every 2 hours.
Wear loose clothing - this helps movement.

Flying
It's best to avoid alcohol as this causes dehydration which can lead to muscle pain.
If it's a long flight remember to do regular shoulder shrugs, buttock clenches, calf raises and foot circles.
Moving around the cabin whenever you can helps keep your muscles flexible.
At airports get moving as much as possible, avoiding travelators where you can.
At the baggage carousel lift luggage carefully- one helpful tip is to make sure that your luggage is easily identifiable.

On arrival
If you can, go for a walk. Travelling often involves a lot of sitting around.
Then time to relax and enjoy a well deserved break!
If you need any more advice or have back pain following your trip, feel free to contact us.

The beautiful weather has returned! If you’re going to be doing any gardening it’s important to warm up first with a few stretches. This will help to prepare the muscles which reduces the risk of injury.
During gardening move mindfully, good posture is important, so avoid hunching. Bend the knees rather than bending at the waist, focusing on safe lifting. Listen to your body and take regular breaks. Working with ergonomic long handled tools can help us to maintain a good safe posture.
Finally, once you’ve finished end with a few stretches. Then it’s time to relax with a cuppa and enjoy the results of your work!
