How Much Protein Do You Need After 50?

Protein helps to keep our muscles strong, which is important for maintaining the balance and mobility needed to continue to live independently as we age. Yet, unlike with fruits and veggies, we may not focus on getting enough of this important nutrient. And recommendations on exactly how much protein older adults need vary.
Are you getting enough protein? ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ’

The three macronutrients โ€” fats, carbs, and protein โ€” affect your body in different ways.

Studies show that protein is by far the most filling. It helps you feel more full โ€” with less food (3Trusted Source).

This is partly because protein reduces your level of the hunger hormone ghrelin. It also boosts the levels of peptide YY, a hormone that makes you feel full.

These effects on appetite can be powerful. In one study, increasing protein intake from 15% to 30% of calories made overweight women eat 441 fewer calories each day without intentionally restricting anything.

If you need to lose weight or belly fat, consider replacing some of your carbs and fats with protein. It can be as simple as making your potato or rice serving smaller while adding a few extra bites of meat or fish. ๐Ÿ’

Feeding Your Inner Ecosystem

Properly feeding our gut bacteria starts a biochemical domino effect that influences not just our digestion but also our overall health. A well-cared-for community of gut bacteria will affect your ability to resist diseases like cancer and diabetes, influence your ability to heal wounds, and instruct your brain to release chemicals that make you more social. We are just beginning to learn how our microbiome helps our body resist diseases ranging from inflammatory bowel disease, depression, obesity, cardiovascular disease, and even Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.

Everything you put in your mouth โ€” fruits, vegetables, carbs, meats, junk food, soda, artificial sweeteners โ€” feeds your human cells and then becomes food for your gut microbiome. Your bacteria can metabolize food components that the human body canโ€™t digest, and this can create beneficial bioactives that protect your health.๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ’

What is the normal human aging timeline?

Life in the human body takes place at microscopic level as each cell undergoes daily metabolic reactions. The side effects of these reactions accumulate over time and, after many years, eventually become toxic to the body, resulting in progressive decline, greater frailty, and eventually death.

The human aging timeline is also driven by interactions between our genes and the environment. Our genes may contribute up to a quarter of our predisposition towards natural longevity due to the increased presence of genes that alter cell metabolism and cell reproduction to favour slower aging.

Some developmental factors, such as perinatal conditions and birth weight, have also been found to have an impact. Smoking is thought to decrease longevity, not in the least because it increases the risk of several deadly diseases. Conversely, a diet rich in leafy greens may contribute to longer life expectancy.

Everything grows old. As you age, you may notice an extra wrinkle on your forehead or lower energy levels.

Gene expression goes awry.

Certain parts of your DNA are read and translated into physical traits. A group of proteins in your cells controls which genes ultimately get expressed. This process is called epigenetic moderation, and it's what ensures your skin cells are different from brain cells, even though they use the same set of DNA.

But as we age, the proteins bound to DNA become looser and less accurate, and genes start to get expressed when they shouldn't be, or get silenced in error. This means some necessary proteins aren't being made, and harmful, unnecessary proteins are

ageLOCยฎ R2 is delivered as alternating Day and Night formulas to help balance two interconnected aspects of youthfulness. ageLOC R2 Day promotes youthful gene expression related to cellular energy production while ageLOC R2 Night promotes youthful gene expression related to cellular purification. Together, ageLOC R2 targets aging at its source to promote physical vigor, mental acuity, as well as to support the body's ability to neutralize and remove cellular waste and metabolic byproducts. ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ’

You've probably heard the term superfoodsโ€”it's often applied to things like brown rice, spinach, yogurt, tomatoes and other healthy foods โ€”but have you ever wondered what makes a food super? It's about efficiency: Superfoods not only pack more nutritional punch per bite than other foods do, they also have other properties that directly support the immune system, cut down on inflammation in the body, support mental health, and boost energy, stamina and longevity. You can't ask for much more than that from a single food.๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ’

Tips for Improving Your Energy
Improving your diet is the first step you should take to get your health in line, and this includes your energy. Here are some other tips for energy:

Eliminate all simple sugars. Eat more berries and other fruits.
Eat organic raw vegetables, and include more nuts, seeds, and herbs into your daily regimen.
Be sure to eat enough calories to provide yourself with enough energy to think and be active.
Get plenty of quality sleep each night, shooting for at least seven to nine hours.
Get some sun for adequate vitamin D. Sunlight balances serotonin and melatonin and stabilizes your circadian rhythms.
Reducing stress gets your body out of the fight-or-flight state and into the relaxed state, which boosts energy.๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ’

Having experienced menopause in my late 30s (now in my 50s) Iโ€™m well versed and experienced in the ups and downs, without really knowing what was going on until my late 40s ๐Ÿ˜
Why does menopause cause fatigue?

Menopausal fatigue is often thought to be the result of hormone imbalances. As hormone levels, particularly oestrogen, fluctuate, we will notice differences in our energy levels. It is when the level of oestrogen is at rock bottom that we will experience fatigue.

These hormonal changes can influence our normal sleep pattern, so that women who had always slept well before the menopause find they are suddenly struggling to achieve adequate restful sleep. This is often a cause of fatigue during the day.

There are lifestyle causes which could also trigger fatigue. Many menopausal women feel that they are under greater time restraints, and often other menopause symptoms such as memory lapses can make a woman feel stressed. This is likely to result in an episode of fatigue.

What did you have for lunch today?
You know that healthy habits, such as eating well, exercising, and avoiding harmful substances, make sense, but did you ever stop to think about why you practice them? A healthy habit is any behavior that benefits your physical, mental, and emotional health. These habits improve your overall well-being and make you feel good.

Healthy habits are hard to develop and often require changing your mindset. But if youโ€™re willing to make sacrifices to better your health, the impact can be far-reaching, regardless of your age, s*x, or physical ability ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ’

Eating plenty of vegetables is one of the easiest ways for people to improve their health and well-being.

All vegetables contain healthful vitamins, minerals, and fiber. However, some stand out for their exceptional health benefits.

Some individuals benefit more from certain vegetables than others, depending on their diet, overall health, and nutritional needs.

Peas are sweet, starchy vegetables that provide 134 calories per cooked cup. They are also high in:

fiber, at 9 grams per serving
protein, at 9 grams per serving
vitamins A, C, and K
certain B vitamins
Green peas are a good source of plant-based protein, and eating them is an effective way for vegetarian and vegan people to boost their protein intake.

Peas and other legumes contain fiber, which supports good bacteria in the gut to ensure a healthy digestive tract.

They are also rich in saponins, which are plant compounds that may provide antioxidant and anticancer benefits. ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿค—

What is Sea Buckthorn?

Sea buckthorn is a herb. The leaves, flowers, and fruits are used to make medicine.

Sea buckthorn leaves and flowers are used for treating arthritis, gastrointestinal ulcers, gout, and skin rashes caused by infectious diseases such as measles. A tea containing sea buckthorn leaves is used as a source of vitamins, antioxidants, protein building blocks (amino acids), fatty acids and minerals; for improving blood pressure and lowering cholesterol; preventing and controlling blood vessel diseases; and boosting immunity.

Sea buckthorn berries are used for preventing infections, improving sight, and slowing the aging process. ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿค—

African Palm fruit, from the African oil palm (Elaeis guineensis) are small, ovoid-oblong fruits that grow in clusters of several hundred, close to the trunk on short heavy stalks. The fruits range in size from less than 1 inch to 2 inches and are black and red when ripe.

Nutritional Value
Unrefined red palm oil is rich in antioxidants, vitamin E, vitamin A, vitamin K, carotenes, lycopene, tocotreinol, and tocopherols. It can be used in place of cod liver oil for correcting vitamin A deficiency. It is being used by governments throughout the world to fight nutrition and vitamin E deficiency. The red color derives from the very high levels of carotenes, more than 15 times the carotenes in carrots and 300 times that of tomatoes.

Omega-3 fatty acids like those found in krill oil have been shown to have important anti-inflammatory functions in the body (Trusted Source).

In fact, krill oil may be even more effective at fighting inflammation than other marine omega-3 sources because it appears to be easier for the body to use. Because krill oil seems to help reduce inflammation, it may also improve arthritis symptoms and joint pain, which often result from inflammation.

In fact, a study that found krill oil significantly reduced a marker of inflammation also found that krill oil reduced stiffness, functional impairment and pain in patients with rheumatoid or osteoarthritis (Trusted Source). ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ’

Each of our cells are small energy generators called mitochondria. The health of our mitochondria determines the amount of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) they can produce from the calories we eat and oxygen we consume. Without robust mitochondria, cells cannot do as much work as theyโ€™re capable of and we need them to do so we can stay healthy.

Omega 3

Omega 3 fatty acids help to build up the mitochondriaโ€™s protective membranes. These membranes contain the spread of nasty free radical by-products, resulting less cell damage and more energy.

Healthy Fats

Healthy fats protect the mitochondria by providing anti-inflammatory support. While the mitochondria can use either fatty acids or carbohydrates to produce energy, doing so with healthy fats is loads more efficient and creates fewer free radical by-products.

recommended: oily fish, avocado, coconut, olive or flaxseed oil. ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ’
