The Carpenter's Arms

The Carpenter's Arms Accommodation providing addiction related support primarily for those challenged with homelessness This programme ranges from 2 weeks to 3 months long.

The programme -

Phase 1: We have 18 bedrooms across 2 sites for new arrivals, commonly referred to as Phase 1. Here residents can settle in, reduce from methadone, subutex, chlordiazapoxide or a range of other prescribed medications to aid with substance withdrawal. Here residents are expected to work with staff to detox and prepare for Phase 2 should the resident successfully complete Phase 1. Phase 2: This part of the programme focuses on the pastoral issues surrounding the addictive lifestyle, including looking at the back to work mentality. During this time residents will be encouraged to reconcile with family, visits facilitated and progress made on core issues by one of our support workers. Phase 3: For those who have successfully completed a residential addiction recovery centre, ours or a similar programme in the UK, we offer great accommodation in and around the Loughborough area. These houses have a member of staff living in and space for up to 4 residents. During this time the resident will be encouraged back to work, but realistically the timetable is their own. A regular review takes place every three months to determine the progress a resident is making in Phase 3 and, along with their key worker, new long term objectives are set. Help is never far away though as the live in staff member assists with daily challenges including work place issues and life skills. Re-offenders: Due to our close working relationship with the police and probation, and in no small part to the further education courses that some residents enrol on, we have found particular success with re-offenders. For those coming out of prison, our centre provides a stable platform for reintegration whilst addressing recovery from addiction. This programme includes move on houses with voluntary work available. Perks: We have found that part of successful rehabilitation is a healthy body as well as a healthy mind. We have a gym at Phase 2, a 5 a side football team, a scuba diving club and volunteering opportunities that include gardening within the community. This is a great chance to invest in the local community. After a busy day, catch up with other residents in the hot tub onsite or over a game of pool or table tennis. Street-2-life: This is a fantastic opportunity for willing residents to sow back into a younger generation by visiting schools and running workshops on substance abuse. This includes working with local youth groups. Family feel: Our largest centre has 29 bedrooms so there is always a sense of knowing who you live with and who you’re going through the programme with. We recognise that a support network is a necessary tool and so we will also work with clients to help reconcile family relationships. We believe that Christianity provides a firm foundation and ethos to operate under. No-one is excluded from applying for a place on our programme. Although we are based in Leicestershire, we are able to accommodate referrals nationwide. Application forms and House Rules can be downloaded from our website.

We’re incredibly grateful to Johnson Astills for funding accredited therapy training for the team at The Carpenter’s Arms as part of their sponsorship of our charity this year 🙌

Support Team workers Sarah Davies and Kate Huggon, Eve Carson (HR and Support Lead), Benjamin Howard and Kate George have each completed specialist training in areas including CBT, DBT and Solution-Focused Therapy.

For our residents, this means more informed, personalised one-to-one support, and a team that’s even better equipped to walk alongside them through recovery.

Thank you, Johnson Astills, for making this possible. 💙

Employment plays a crucial role in sustainable recovery, and through partnerships with training providers like Training (East Midlands), our residents are supported to identify, explore, and pursue meaningful career opportunities.

Here’s what Rob, one of our residents, had to say:

‘I walked into The Carpenter’s Arms consumed by addiction. I’m a qualified legal accountant, but here they’ve given me opportunities to gain further qualifications in employability, health and social care, and through Access Training.

This has helped me manage stress in life situations and develop positive thinking, among other things. Kat (Lead Employability Trainer at Access Training) is a helpful and patient teacher, giving everyone equal opportunity to improve their education while being on the programme.

I would recommend these courses, and The Carpenter’s Arms as a whole, to anyone wanting to recover from addiction.’

Valentine’s Day can be tough. For many of our residents, it’s a reminder of the impact addiction has had on the people they care about.

But it’s also a reminder of hope.

We asked some of our residents to share how addiction affected their relationships, and how recovery is helping to restore them. 💙

Working in partnership with local employers enables us to support our residents to take real steps back into employment and financial stability.

At The Carpenter’s Arms, we believe recovery does not stop at stability in addiction. It continues through opportunity, trust, and the chance to re-enter everyday life in a meaningful way. That means not giving up on residents when things get difficult and not expecting them to do it alone. Workin...

We’ve received a lovely donation from John Owen and his wife!

They generously donated kitchenware, along with an iron and ironing board. Fun fact: we go through around 240 mugs every year, so donated mugs are always especially welcome. ☕️

Thank you both for your support! 💙

As part of a new interview series, we’re shining a light on the people behind the scenes at The Carpenter’s Arms – the ones whose day-to-day work helps make recovery possible.

Through these conversations, we’re sharing more about the roles, values and people who keep the charity moving forward.

Meet Andy, our Referrals Manager and Development Lead, and Eve, our HR and Support Lead, as they talk about their work, their journeys, and what supporting recovery really looks like in practice.

Over the festive period, we received a number of wonderful donations, including The Fleet Auction Group, whose generosity helped fund festive meals, hampers, gifts, and activities for our residents. 🎄

Find out how their support made a difference! 💙

It is the generosity of local businesses that makes it possible for The Carpenter’s Arms to offer the breadth of support it does. One such supporter is The Fleet Auction Group who, over the Christmas period, helped us create a truly special festive season for our residents. Thanks to their support...
