Calm Reset

This is your reminder: you don’t have to carry the whole day in your body.

A 1-minute reset to soften your shoulders, unclench your jaw, and come back down into yourself.

Save this for:

✨ busy mornings
✨ post-work decompression
✨ bedtime wind-down
✨ any moment you feel overwhelmed for no obvious reason

Sometimes we just need a downshift.

If you want more you can join my weekly Substacj or I run sessions at Flow Calm Still Studio in Quorn

Your spine isn’t meant to stay stuck in one shape all day.

This is a simple 5-minute breath-led spinal reset you can do anytime you feel tight, stiff, foggy, or “not quite in your body.”

How to do it:
Sit comfortably
Move your spine in all directions
Let the breath lead

Use my movements as a guide… then freestyle it

Do this for 5 minutes and notice how different you feel after.

Twice a week, at the very least, I add Freestyle Movement into my training.

I set a timer for 15–20 minutes, put on some music (usually Soul or Disco)… and I just move.

It always starts with the breath -I tune in and feel where my body needs space… what needs loosening off… what’s tight, tense or holding on.

And then I move.

Sometimes it’s on the floor.
Sometimes it’s standing.
Sometimes it’s balance.
Sometimes I’m literally jumping around dancing like a lunatic.

And the joy of it is… it’s never the same.

Sometimes it’s really strong.
Sometimes it’s fast.
Sometimes it’s slow.
Sometimes it’s gentle.

There’s absolutely a place for routine...
working on skills, practicing safe transitions, building strength through repetition… sticking to the plan.

BUT…

If I had to stick to the plan every day, I’d feel stale and stuck.

I get bored with regular mobility routines… and freestyle movement works my whole body in a way that makes me feel fluid - flowing...free.

And just to say this…
Some people will watch me move and think it looks intimidating.
Some might look and judge it.
But it’s not for them. It’s not a performance.
It’s for me.

And your freestyle won’t look like mine anyway…
your freestyle movement will look like you.

It’s not about flailing about...and it’s not always in my comfort zone - but my god it feels so good.

Because when you’re tuned into your body… it hits the spot. Every time.

There’s no right or wrong here - just get moving.
That’s all your body wants from you. 🩵💙🤍

I wasn’t sure whether to share this... but I actually think it matters for the people I work with every day.

This is me today, at Leicester General Hospital, having an iron transfusion.
Nothing alarming. I'm fine!
But enough to knock me off my feet for a while.

What feels relevant isn’t the hospital bit... it’s how slowly not feeling yourself can creep in.

For the last couple of years, I’ve been in what I’d call quiet survival mode.

Life required a full rebuild. New foundations. A lot of responsibility. A lot of “just get on with it”.

I had support - brilliant support - but I’m also very good at being the strong one. At coping. At pushing through.
At first, the signs were subtle.
Low-level tiredness.

A dip in energy I explained away as stress… or age… or just life being busy.
Then the naps crept in.
The dizziness at the gym.
The leaning against walls between clients with my eyes closed.

The brain fog. The forgetting small things.
I could only sleep for 3 hours at a time.

But because I could still function, I told myself I was fine.
Until I wasn’t.

Until I had to cancel clients... something I’ve never done in 17 years.

Until I couldn’t perform the basics anymore.

That’s when I finally rang the doctor. Which I should have done earlier.
Blood tests I’d forgotten to chase showed my iron levels were very low.

And honestly?

The overwhelming feeling was relief.
Because it wasn’t weakness.
It wasn’t failure.
It wasn’t “just getting older”.

It was my body asking...quietly, repeatedly - to be listened to.

It’s a very ordinary story.
And that’s why I’m sharing it.
If you’ve been forcing rather than flowing…
If exhaustion has become your normal…
If you’ve been explaining things away because you’re still “managing”…

Please don’t wait until your body shouts.
Do one small thing:
• Book the appointment
• Ask the question
• Take the rest
• Change one habit
• Let yourself be supported

You don’t need to collapse to earn care.
Sometimes the most responsible thing we can do... for ourselves and the people who rely on us - is to pause and pay attention and ask for help.

I’ll be taking my own advice over the next few weeks.
Strong doesn’t mean ignoring the signals.
Strong means responding to them.
💙

I don’t think people have stopped caring about their bodies.
I think they’ve lost the relationship with them.
Most of us live from the neck up...

thinking, planning, coping, pushing through.
The body becomes something we use…

until it hurts, tightens, or asks for attention.

This isn’t about doing more.
It’s about listening sooner.
Moving with care.
Resting without guilt.

Coming back into the body... gently.
Because your body isn’t a problem to fix.
It’s a place to live.

This week's blog is a little deeper than my usual style of writing..

💙 A gentle assessment of the hard bits last year
🤍 A recognition of the resilience built because of it

And how my Flow Calm Still Method support this...

I say again and again to my clients....we need to build a strong foundation to live from..in ourselves, in our bodies, for our minds- because when life gets shaky (which it does) we won't crumble under the stress - we will manage it
