Twice a week, at the very least, I add Freestyle Movement into my training.
I set a timer for 15ā20 minutes, put on some music (usually Soul or Disco)⦠and I just move.
It always starts with the breath -I tune in and feel where my body needs space⦠what needs loosening off⦠whatās tight, tense or holding on.
And then I move.
Sometimes itās on the floor.
Sometimes itās standing.
Sometimes itās balance.
Sometimes Iām literally jumping around dancing like a lunatic.
And the joy of it is⦠itās never the same.
Sometimes itās really strong.
Sometimes itās fast.
Sometimes itās slow.
Sometimes itās gentle.
Thereās absolutely a place for routine...
working on skills, practicing safe transitions, building strength through repetition⦠sticking to the plan.
BUTā¦
If I had to stick to the plan every day, Iād feel stale and stuck.
I get bored with regular mobility routines⦠and freestyle movement works my whole body in a way that makes me feel fluid - flowing...free.
And just to say thisā¦
Some people will watch me move and think it looks intimidating.
Some might look and judge it.
But itās not for them. Itās not a performance.
Itās for me.
And your freestyle wonāt look like mine anywayā¦
your freestyle movement will look like you.
Itās not about flailing about...and itās not always in my comfort zone - but my god it feels so good.
Because when youāre tuned into your body⦠it hits the spot. Every time.
Thereās no right or wrong here - just get moving.
Thatās all your body wants from you. š©µšš¤
