April is Stress Awareness Month, an event organised by the Stress Management Society to encourage people to recognise early signs of stress and address them before further escalation.

Stress may cause physical symptoms such as headaches, muscle tension or fatigue. It may cause emotional changes like irritability, anxiety or feeling overwhelmed.

Cognitive symptoms may also appear such as racing thoughts, forgetfulness or difficulty concentrating. Long term stress can lead to increased susceptibility to illness due to weakening of the immune system, so if you find yourself struggling with stress, take action today!

What is Stress Awareness Month? Stress Awareness Month is an annual event observed every April since 1992, dedicated to increasing public awareness about the causes, effects, and management of stress. The Stress Management Society, a nonprofit organisation established in 2003, has been championing t...

This powerful quote reminds us that our past does not have to define our future, unless we let it do so.

We don’t have to keep replaying old scenes in our heads, beating ourselves up and being stuck in ‘if only’ thinking.

The choice is ours. We can stay stuck in the past and continue to suffer, or we can use it to learn from it and heal, so we can change and thrive.

I find this study fascinating as it’s looking at 'age' beliefs, how one views the process of getting older makes a big difference!

Researchers find that nearly half of adults over 65 show cognitive and physical improvements, driven largely by positive beliefs about aging.

On 13th of March 2026 is World Sleep Day, an annual event organised by the World Sleep Society to celebrate good sleep and raise awareness about problems that can prevent good sleep from happening.

There are numerous factors which contribute to sleep disruption, ranging from lifestyle and environment to sleep disorders, anxiety and other medical conditions.

Sleep problems have substantial adverse short and long-term health consequences because sleep plays a vital role in brain function and the wellbeing of the entire body. So, if you suffer with poor sleep which causes you to feel anxious, lack concentration in work, feel irritable or short tempered, today is a good day to take action!

World Sleep Day (WSD) is an annual celebration of sleep & call to action on important sleep issues organized by World Sleep Day Committee of World Sleep Society

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is similar to counselling, but different in approach as it is structured, focuses on current issues, and sets up goals to work towards.

It provides strategies to manage the difficult emotions of daily life, and to grow and develop personally and professionally. So you can thrive, not just survive.

René Descartes, a French philosopher, pointed out the importance of internal growth for our mental health state.

He was of the opinion that personal fulfilment stems from our ability to control our emotions and desires because they are within our control, as opposed to going after external things that may not be within our control to affect change.

His quote invites us to strive to achieve inner peace and resilience by changing our negative thoughts, because thoughts are within our control to change if we chose to do so and they can make us feel better.

Eating Disorders Awareness Week 2026 is organized by Beat Eating Disorders (BEAT) and runs from 23rd of February to 1st of March 2026.

The theme this year is ‘Community’ and it was chosen because eating disorders can often lead to profound feelings of loneliness and isolation, whether for those experiencing them directly or for loved ones supporting thier recovery.

By focusing on community, BEAT aims to empower various groups to spot early signs of eating disorders, encourage seeking help, and foster environments that promote recovery and overall wellbeing for those suffering with this issue.

This Eating Disorders Awareness Week 2026 we are raising awareness about the important role Community plays in helping someone feel supported.

Self-Limiting Beliefs are unhelpful ways of thinking which can keep us stuck in negative emotions such as anxiety, depression, or anger.

CBT therapy can help identify and challenge rigid belief systems, and change them to more flexible and compassionate ones, to overcome negative emotions and behaviours.

It is my experience that within six to twelve sessions of CBT therapy people can make significant progress on most issues, and thrive.

I find this article fascinating. It has a good insight into how our brains work, and it makes suggestions as to what we can do to keep them working well, throughout life.

Challenging the brain by exposing it to new situations, tasks and skills can improve its efficiency, much like strength training does for our muscles. But maximum efficiency requires optimal rest.

One of the greatest challenges for us all is to live without knowing what our future will be like.

Uncertainty gives rise to speculation of the future, and in the absence of not knowing for sure, our minds can’t help but see negative scenarios which can give rise to anxiety.

Teaching our minds to stay in the present can help reduce this anxiety.
