To become self-aware is to understand our emotional triggers, thought patterns and past influences which can affect us now.

Becoming aware of what we think and the way we react can helps us shift from reacting automatically to conscious responding, were we choose how we respond in a situation, not just react.

This awareness can help us communicate clearly, reduce negative emotions such as anger, and improve our relationships.

How we respond to our issues matters hugely, as unhelpful ways of coping can keep us tuck in the problems we have, and we suffer for longer.

When we experience negative emotions, the tendency is to resort to using unhelpful strategies such as avoidance, self-criticism, substance use, or rumination.

Developing helpful strategies such as cognitive restructuring, emotion regulation, communication techniques, and problem-solving help us become unstuck and get better.

Mental Health Awareness Week is here to remind us all to open up about mental health issues and raise awareness about their effects on us.

However, this year the focus is on taking action, not just talking about our issues.

If you find yourself struggling with your emotional health and have been thinking for a while to do something about it, today is a good day to take action!

This Mental Health Awareness Week we’re asking people to join us in taking action to support good mental health.

Dying Matters Awareness Week 2026 will take place from the 4th to the 10th of May. The event is organised by HospiceUK with the theme 'Let’s talk about Death and Dying'.

This is a very sensitive issue which most people struggle to talk about, and some find anxiety provoking just thinking about it. However, we all lose loved ones at some point in our lifetime and go through this experience ourselves.

This event is encouraging us all to start talking about it so that we don’t feel completely overwhelmed when we are going through this experience with a loved one, or ourselves.

Dying Matters Awareness Week 2026 will take place from the 4-10 May. This year's theme is 'Let’s talk about Death and Dying'.

Resilience means the capacity to remain well, recover, or even thrive in the face of adversity.

This depends on our system of believes, if they are healthy, we can handle adverse situations and cope. If they are unhealthy, we can get stuck.

Put the effort into healing so you can build resilience and decrease suffering.

Therapy is a process of exploration in which we understand our negative thoughts, feelings and behaviours and build skills to reduce emotional distress.

But therapy is not just for working on negative feelings and behaviours, it’s also for achieving goals, developing reflective skills, decision-making, clarity and building confidence.

You may not think of therapy as work, but it is, the change begins when we work and change our systems of beliefs. We start with it in the sessions building a healthy mindset and you continue it at home with practicing the new learning developed in the sessions to get better, and thrive.

April is Stress Awareness Month, an event organised by the Stress Management Society to encourage people to recognise early signs of stress and address them before further escalation.

Stress may cause physical symptoms such as headaches, muscle tension or fatigue. It may cause emotional changes like irritability, anxiety or feeling overwhelmed.

Cognitive symptoms may also appear such as racing thoughts, forgetfulness or difficulty concentrating. Long term stress can lead to increased susceptibility to illness due to weakening of the immune system, so if you find yourself struggling with stress, take action today!

What is Stress Awareness Month? Stress Awareness Month is an annual event observed every April since 1992, dedicated to increasing public awareness about the causes, effects, and management of stress. The Stress Management Society, a nonprofit organisation established in 2003, has been championing t...

This powerful quote reminds us that our past does not have to define our future, unless we let it do so.

We don’t have to keep replaying old scenes in our heads, beating ourselves up and being stuck in ‘if only’ thinking.

The choice is ours. We can stay stuck in the past and continue to suffer, or we can use it to learn from it and heal, so we can change and thrive.

I find this study fascinating as it’s looking at 'age' beliefs, how one views the process of getting older makes a big difference!

Researchers find that nearly half of adults over 65 show cognitive and physical improvements, driven largely by positive beliefs about aging.
