Thoughts on Counselling

This is from a previous client who shared their journey with Hope Centre Counselling. They have given permission for us to share and we hope it will be encouraging.

"For a long time I felt I did not need to speak to a counsellor. I knew what the problems were and how I felt and that was that! However, after constantly going over the issues in my head, and feeling my wellbeing was suffering, I made a decision to come to Hope Centre Counselling.

I am very pleased I did. I had a safe place to express my feelings and sorrow, as well as having my pain acknowledged. I then worked through it with support and care, and then to decide what to do with it for a positive future. I put what I wanted to do into action, and will continue to do so. I learned so much about myself and how to express my feelings in a positive way.

Although I still feel disappointment about some past events, my anger - which was only harming me - is diminished and I have a sense of peace".

This was so moving to read as it has always been our heart that no-one journeys alone through a difficult time in their life.

Wishing you all a wonderful summer!

Hi, I’m Sharon Milne and I run Hope Centre Counselling Loughton. I have a Diploma of Higher Education in Counselling from Waverley Abbey College & Middlesex University. I am a Member (MNSC Accred) of the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society and Association of Christian Counsellors. I am also an Internal Family Systems Practitioner (Levels 1 & 2).

My approach incorporates the five principles of trauma-informed care, which are safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration and empowerment. Within the therapeutic relationship I work with individuals who suffer with depression, all forms of anxiety (health, separation, climate etc), stress, self-esteem, anger, relationship difficulties (including family estrangement), spiritual issues, bereavement and loss (including miscarriage and abortion).

Prior to becoming a counsellor, I ran my own floristry business, worked in the City in legal recruitment, and latterly worked and volunteered in many different roles at St Mary’s in Loughton. My passion has always been emotional and mental well-being.

Introducing Victoria Wasteney!

My name is Victoria and I am a counsellor in training at Waverley Abbey College, currently in the second year of a three-year Diploma in Higher Education. At the conclusion of this qualification, I will be a fully qualified professional counsellor.

I am currently a qualified occupational therapist and have worked within both NHS and community settings for over 15 years. This has allowed me to work with people who had disruptions to their usual functioning, through ill health or their mental well-being. My work was in allowing individuals to process the experience, and develop plans towards re-establishing a pattern for the life they desired.

I have also volunteered for international charities including feeding and education schemes along with local churches.

When life becomes a struggle and difficulties seem impossible to resolve, speaking to someone outside the situation can often help. I aim to provide a confidential, positive and safe space, where I hope to walk with you and help you navigate these difficulties.

We are pleased to announce we now have two new members of the team at HCCL. Here is Andrew Holmes in his own words…

“Hi, I’m Andrew, and I am currently studying my Masters in Counselling. I am a student member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

I have work experience in the business sector, and over 20 years of pastoral care helping people with their wellbeing, walking with them through relational conflict and parenting-related and marital issues. I’ve worked alongside students and young people to help them improve their wellbeing. I’ve worked as a coach and mentor.

Growing up as a rugby-loving South African man, I wasn’t encouraged to express or engage with my emotions much. As an adult I benefitted greatly from receiving counselling from a compassionate and skilled counsellor. This inspired me to train as a counsellor myself.

My current training is in an integrative approach which incorporates aspects of a number of psychotherapeutic theories including Psychodynamic Theory, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Systemic Approaches, Gestalt Therapy and issues of Spiritual Formation if appropriate.
